C-Body Holy Grail Restoration Starts Here; 1970 6BBL GT

I don't think this is the only April Fool's joke being played on this site right now. I suspect there may be another, just as diabolical.

I have some bad news, medium news, and semi-good news to report on the plugs.

Bad: I moved some junk out of the way and got the hood open on the '68 VIP. It's got tons of rustproofing plugs in the hood structure, but they are just black generic plugs, so it wasn't Ziebart that did the job.

Medium: I called the local Ziebart store to see if they still used the yellow plugs. They use black plugs now, but the guy I talked to contacted the main office and they said that they would put the word out to see if any of the locations still had some of the yellow plugs sitting on a shelf.

Semi-good: A friend of mine had 7 plugs in his parts collection. If Ziebart doesn't come through with a found stash, maybe Zymurgy could use these to make you some new ones.

Jeff,

Thank you for following up! I appreciate it very much.

Those are the plugs I need.

The plugs on my car are there, but they are so “aged” they crumble and fall apart if you disturb them in any way.

If you can gather them from your sources..I’d be happy to use them and I’ll gladly pay for them etc., what ever works for the both of you.

I was going to re-weld the plug holes, but then thought, the car originally had a ZIEBART treatment from new, so I’ve decided to keep it as delivered.

It’s difficlut from my location as ZIEBART was more of a Midwest and East Coast treatment than West Coast. So I appreciate your help!

Thanks again!

The ZIEBART treatment would have been done at the dealership or by the 1st owner from my understanding. IMO I'd fill the holes in as per how it left the factory.

You're welcome.

PM me where you want them mailed to.

They're on the house. My friend is donating the plugs and I'll spring for the postage. It's our small contribution to the big project.

Correct NOS 187 oil pan. It’s one of the straightest oil pans I’ve seen. One of my pet peeves is a restored/rebuilt engine with dents in the pan....

I’m pretty sure pan came out of a parts depot in West Virginia, then to a dealer. So I assume that’s what the WV is for.

187 baffled pans are very rare...have 2 nice ones luckily...

I know of a U code 71 New Yorker with a baffled 187. I would say it's an HP engine thing, I could be wrong, but it would certainly make sense.

some got them ...some didn't...not sure why... as long as you are not racing around it prob doesn't matter...but they are cool!

Are they for any 440/6bbl motor...B/C/E-body, or just the 440/6bbl C-bodies?

never seen a 187 in an E/B body ...its a c body pan in 70-71 only..howevr ..early 66-7 b bodies had them also ...baffled ones came on 383 and 440 hp cars... hit and miss...
