No steering assist on idle '68 Newport

The 7" open pulley I have is an original mopar part and seems to be original with some federal pumps. Can't find too much information on this though. For what I can remember is that I had powersteering when idling before I started working on the car. So it can't be much. But I'm not 100% sure...

I did bleed the power steering pump. But I will try to do it again. The whole system was dry and didn't even took a quart of fluid (power steering fluid, bot atf). Wheels in the air. Engine running and turning wheel lock to lock multiple times right? I'm sure they are assembled correctly. If...

It's alive! '68 Newport first start

I saw your restoration posts! Good work, I also appreciate it that you want to make it your own by changing some things to your liking. I also did everything myself with some help here and there from my father. Fortunately my Newport is solid in terms of rust, unfortunately it has some dents...

It's alive! '68 Newport first start

Hi all, As some of you know I'm working on restoring my '68 Newport. 1968 Newport 4dr Hardtop restore (NL) After a year of hard work it was finally time to see if the engine would fire up. Engine bay wiring was not finished yet so I whipped up some basic wiring and a battery for this test. I'm...

'68 Newport dash vacuum actuator removal and identification

Yes I managed to fix that one, but apart from the broken nipple it also had a small leak in the membrane. I ended up with used actuators I got from @detmatt But fixing the nipple was easy and well worth a try :) I still have that actuator, I'll take a picture this weekend In my case the broken...

    '68 Newport fuel lines/vent

Hi all I've installed a new 2 vent gastank in my '68 newport and I'm figuring out the fuel line routing. I only have a hardline running through the passenger side of the frame. It looks like the drivers side also had a hard line running through it, but that's not there anymore. What line is...

'68 Newport how to change cornering bulbs

Are you talking about the cornering lights or the marker lights? The marker lights are in the bumper and are small rectangular orange lights. The cornering lights are behind the marker lights in the bottom of the fender (in front of the front wheel) and turn on together with the turning signal...

My switch was dirty and semi molten on the inside. I managed to refurbish it and it fully works again :) Took it apart. Cleaned all the contacts. Glued the vacuum connections since they had hairline fractures. Fixed the molten parts and rerivited the electrical connections. Works like a...

'68 newport fan not working on heat/defrost but working on A/C

I was hoping it would be another cause. But a bad switch seems the most logical thing at this point. I will first try to fix mine before I buy a new switch. Resistor and blower switch were disassembled in the past weeks, cleaned and checked out fine. I've also cleaned and checked all other...

'68 newport fan not working on heat/defrost but working on A/C

Hi all, I'm trying to get everything working in the dash of my 68 chrysler Newport. Most of the stuff is working, except for the fan in Heat and Def mode. The fan works on AC and Max AC mode and has Low/Mid/High. So the resistor is also fine. Does anyone have any clue why the fan turns of...

Thanks for the info! Seems like a good book to buy. After some testing I've noticed that both actuators have a leaking membrane :( 2837891 (AC door, long shaft) and 2837889 (heater shutoff door, short shaft) If anyone has them laying around or knows where I can find them, please let me know.

'68 Newport dash vacuum actuator removal and identification

I got the one in the back with the long rod out. The top vacuum connector broke off, wtf. I found it still connected to the hose, so I think I can repair it :) The one with the short hose has a small leak past the actuator arm rubber. Looks like it's fixable too. I hope so. I've pulled the...
