Hi
I just got good hub on to replace cracked one, still had the rub, grind noise so i was told you could take play out of axle bearing by adjustingthe nut behind the axle.
i screwed it in towards bearing turning nut to the left seems to quieted the sound some untill you let of gas and roll.
did i go the right way, screw in towards bearing or out to back of axle.
i put a tool under tire and pride up and had some play.
i checked rear end for grease it was ok.
drive shaft looked like it hadnt been greased in a long time.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
do i screw nut to take out slack in towards bearing out out towards axle.
Thanks marblemike

Your axle bearings need to be greased by hand...they are not oiled through the diff.

- Then once you have the axles in place you need to hit them with a 2lb hammer and a block of wood on each hub center to seat them.
- Then rotate the axles several times in each direction and hit them again.
- Then go to the RH side axle and spin the axle adjustment nut clockwise...I think...to take up all the end play. You should not be able to push in, or pull out on either axle and feel movement.
- Then hammer and rotate the axles once again.
- Now you want to loosen the RH axle adjustment nut slowly until you feel a bit of movement...not enough to really see it move, more just feel it. This should be about 10-20 thou.

And you should be good to go.
