1970 Fury I stripper!

Both bolts broke when I took out the gas tank. I made some new ones out of galvanized bolts and washers. I just need to cut them to length and clean up the original nuts.

Brilliant fix, especially for a tank bolt that may or may not be available. Less expensive, too. Looks like what happened when I removed my Imperial tank for replacement. Diggin' the progress!

Finished product. I noticed these holes in the side of each nut. It’s only on one side. Did it have something in it at one time? Some lock-nut device?
If so, I think trying to get them off without breaking the bolt is probably a waste of time. Just a heads up for those facing tank removal.

Meanwhile, the filler neck has been soaking in vinegar, one end at a time. It’s slow but effective. Kinda like me!

Rear brakes installed. I wire brushed the hubs and painted them with high heat paint. Those wooden blocks are not what is holding the car up by the way. I have good old Harbor Freight jack stands under the rear. The blocks are just a little safety catch.

Can you explain the j-bolt nuts, please? Thanks. Lindsay
I don’t know myself. That’s what was on it from the factory. I re-used them because they are longer than a regular nut. They are 3/8”-16. What the hole in the side is for I have no idea, other that a guess that it had plastic injection in it for a lock nut application. I was hoping someone else could shed some light on the subject…

Look what FedEx dragged in! I ordered this two days ago so kudos for fast shipping! The sending unit should be in tomorrow as well as the shocks.
Folks, that’s $446.62 plus tax worth of C-body gas tank right there. The sending unit cost $121.41. Free shipping though, so….
I’ve got everything else tank related cleaned up and ready to go.
Did I mention that I’m still in limbo as far as to whether the engine is salvageable?
I figure by the time the engine situation gets sorted out I WILL have a car ready to put it in!

This tag was laying on top of the original tank under the mat. I’m putting it back where I found it. The original mat is in decent shape so I’ll be re-using it.

Sending unit is in. I went ahead and installed the new hoses on the tank before putting it in. I left them too long and will cut them to the proper length after the tank is in place. I also used the original style clamps even though I hate them!

I attempted to make a ground strap for the sending unit from memory. The one that was on it had all but turned to dust.
I’m not satisfied with how it turned out. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m open to anything that will function well.

This is the tool and clamps I used to replicate the factory setup. I re-used the factory clamp on the filler snout.

I could tell you I found this in the glove box. In reality I found it on eBay. Either way, it’s pretty obvious that this car is a chick magnet.

The local sheriff department suggested that this is as close to the ground as they want to see these 40 year old Sears tires. They had better look the other way is all I can tell them.
