Why does the glove box door look like that?
Very different from my 71.

Ok. Did that style change then in 71? My box cover is smooth.
I've not had a 70 yet.

Yes, they did change in 1971 when Newport and 300 glove box doors became identical and New Yorker glove box doirs also featured a smooth surface.

Also note that the entire 1971 Chrysler dashboard changed in many details: The pad has no lower "lip" anymore, the center A/C outlets are flush with the instrument panel (not the glove box), the idiot light and odometer section is flush with the instrument panel, vent levers moved to the steering column bezel, the light panel is different (brighter), etc.
