215/75-14 tires on a 1967 Chrysler Newport Custom

These are 215/75x14’s on my Monaco. In my opinion they are way too small for the car.
Diameter wise they’re about an inch less than the original 8.55/78x14’s and they look too skinny. At least by todays standard.
I just had a set of 15x7 steel wheels made and modified to accept the original covers and ordered a set of 235/75x15 w.w. to be installed as soon as our weather gets better. This size whitewall is offered by several tire companies much less than Coker or Diamondback.

Which would be better 235x70r15 or 235x75r15

This year is when i finally swap to 15's and to and the proper tire diameter so my speed pinon is finally get corrected for what i have...

225/75R15 and 235/70R15 are almost identical in OD, but the 235/70R15 are wider and I don't know of anyone making w/w in a 70 profile. I have 235/70R15 on the front of my hardtop and they rub the inner fenderwell lightly at full lock. I would probably avoid 235/75R15 because they will be even wider than the 235/70R15. The taller sidewalls will bulge more in the middle. You can look up exact dimensions at tirerack.com or similar sites.

Thanks for all the photos and opinions, I think the 215/75-14 looks good for a driver.
Would be nice to have a slightly wider white wall but you have to live with whats available.

I use the 235/75/15s on all my fuselage cars - no rubbing and they don't look wide enough for my likes, but at least they are tall enough and look like they belong with the cars. I have some older white wall Michelins in that size on my avatar car at the left, and those look perfect, but of course you can't get them anymore in a whitewall. They were tall and wide, more so that anything else available these days.

The 23575R15 are taller and skinnier than the 23570R15...
23575 is 28.3 tall,8.9 wide
23570 is 28 tall 9.3 wide.

The 22575R15 and 23575R15 I would mount on 6 and 6.5 inch wheels which includes the Road wheels or Cordoba wheels.
Mounting the 23575R15 on 7 inch wheels (Cop or 5th Ave wheel rims) may require a bead blaster to get them to pop on and the sidewalls will balloon out a wee bit.
22575R15 will work on any Slab,Fusey and Formal C,and recommend 23575R15 on any C wagon and preferred size on Formals. (Cop Formals 25570R15).

I work at a tire shop and I have access to 23570R15 GT Radial Max Touring with a whitewall.18 in stock.
I have them on the BoaB on the 15X7 Magnum 500's and do not rub anywhere.
PM me here or email me directly at my desk [email protected] if you are interested in the whitewall 23570R15's or have any questions.

BTW I can still get 22575R15 and 23575R15 in a whitewall.
Hercules or Kumho,IIRC.

I would think rim width and backspace plays a bigger part than sidewall aspect ratio.

I agree it is an important factor in the equation.
That has been discussed in many other threads.
The OP is not getting aftermarket rims.

I would have expected the 235/75R15 to bulge more in the sidewall than the 235/70R15 because of the taller profile. I didn't look up the specs though, and you're the tire expert Leaburn. :) My 235/70R15's are mounted on 7-inch "5th Ave" wheels.

Those 235/70R15 w/w on the BoaB look perfect on it, and with the miles you put on it last summer you'd certainly know if they ride well. I will be shopping for some 15" tires for my convertible. Nice to know those are an option.
