69 Newport Tail Panel

I learned today that the tail panel is spot welded into place. Is there any (easy) way to take it off to restore it? or do I need to restore it in place? and if so, how can I remove the "Chrysler" letters so I can re-attach them after the restoration?

Can you reach them from inside the trunk?

Are you sure It' spot welded? The Tail panel that the taillights are in is welded on but the finish panel should be held on with some kind of fasteners with nuts on the back.

Im very sure too that it is mounted in with nuts, I seriously doubt it is spot welded in. Can you show some pics of the inside of the trunk area there? That will tell some of the story.

You aren't going to see the back of that panel from the trunk. You have to take the bumper off.

Big John is correct, its a boxed-in area in the trunk. I will take pics when I get home.

I may just take the light bezels and tail light buckets out and see if there are any fasteners there.
