We had one a few years back who was very nice and like to chat with us... Viv was sure she had a crush on me... but her mustache was better than I ever could grow...I get UPS about every day....NONE of them look like her!

Some more goodness. Rest of trim removed from body. Holes welded up, and filler work done. Full body in primer finally. Pretty happy how she's come out so far. Roof looks decent enough. Bed is bolted back in place as well.
The truck has working wipers again!! Billy bob was too cheap to buy the $3 replacement bushings for the linkage. Figured some old electric wiring would do the trick, along with only one clip of some sort. HA! Idk who last owned this thing, but jebus were they one cheap MF'r!! Unbelievable some of the stuff.
Luckily all the arms were there for the wipers. Just installed some new bushings. Cowl cover is primered, and back on. On to the doors, and tailgate.

That is gonna look good, is it just me or do trucks with duels look better in either an extended cab or 4 door body. I don't like the look with a regular cab and 8ft box.

I want a truck that can haul something besides a bag of apples, and doesn't have smelly leather seats. Back in the day, folks used to by pickups because they were actually work vehicles. Some used to buy them because they were cheaper than cars, nowadays, trucks are suffering from yuppiefication.. $60k's worth!
If one of the big 3 came out with a plain Jane rubber floor matted, no frills truck for $20k they wouldn't be able to keep up with production. IMHO

I'm yuppified myself... lol granted I will never go out, and drop $60k+ on a truck! It's getting ridiculous. But I like the modern (now outdated) conveniences of my DD 03 1500.
I'm one of the ones that prefers the short box. Though, I understand the need for a long box. Prefer the looks of the short.
This D300 has another part I despise about a truck. It's only 2wd. I hate 2wd trucks. Absolutely pointless in my eyes. But.. I'll let this one slide I guess. It's not "mine" after all lol.
Tailgate done up, and on. Will pull it, and paint the backside when I paint the door jambs.

I don't mind the 8ft box at all I just think a dually looks too short and squatty in a regular cab, I have a regular cab with a 8ft box and srw and don't mind the look at all.

Zac that PU is perfect as is... I've never owned a 4wd and can't see where I would need one now, but that will haul a load of plywood or whatever quite nicely. I like the turning ability a shorter wheel base gives if your a regular at walmart, but I lust for the space of a 4 door. Your cab is the best compromise IMO.

Unfortunately, I can't understand why people in general hate 2wd's so much. Say you live in Florida. (Which I know you do but this is just an example) Why do Floridians think they need 4wd? You're certainly not battling the snow. There are no hills to climb except on ramps or bridges, this is exactly why the prices of pickups are thru the roof.
Generally, the people who think trucks are cool, like them cuz they're 4wd and sit high. So the truck industry, cow-tows to the yuppies who never even had a truck off road. They jack the prices thru the roof, because most yuppies have more money than brains, but they hurt the working stiff who needs a WORK TRUCK, for WORK not just to have a "Cool looking truck".
Imagine the poor young guy who wants to branch out and start a lawn service for example. He goes to the local JD dealer and prices out a couple of zero turn mowers and weed wackers, to the tune of 30k, picks out a nice trailer for 12k, then heads over to the car dealer and gets slammed with a staggering, 60k "work truck" loaded with all the bullshit he doesn't even need because the truck companies won't make a plain Jane truck anymore unless you buy a hundred of them. That poor slob will have 125k tied up before he even cuts one blade of grass! Then tack on the insurance, the permits, the fuel, the dot permits and of course the government mandated $15.00 / hr minimum wage for his help that most times are as useless as tits on a nun.... he walks away shaking his head he mutters... EFF IT.
Sorry for the rant. I love what your doing with the truck by the way, and can't wait to see it in full color!

Being on the Cbody diet SUCKS!
Speaking from the Dealer side the cost of producing a reg cab 2wd with enough margin to make it worthwhile results in a cost very close to the much higher volume crewcab. In other words if your factory can only build X number of trucks you build what has the highest profitability in Ram's case that's Crew 4X4's. FCA does not have the plant capacity or sales volume to warrant producing low volume product. If you buy 100000 widgets for your crewcabs and only 5000 for your regcabs you will pay more for the regcab widget. This is why the Dakota truck died. By the time the truck was built it cost almost the same as a 1500 and only sold a tenth. The new Jeep truck should sell well but it is capitalizing on Jeep branding and will likely be more expensive than a 1500 crew. You can still order a plain jane 2wd reg cab vinyl floor no option truck but it costs $28k + up here when I can sell a 1500 quad 4x4 for $33K. I lost on average $5k on every reg cab i sold last year just to get rid of them.....business is business ive ordered zero this year.

It's still pointless to me. It's a truck. If I wanted 2wd I'd get a car, or equivalent.
Maybe it's from being up north, and dealing with the snow, or the testosterone. Idk but It is one of the reasons for having a truck for me. It still gets used down here. Sure not as much. But enough to warrant having it still. Have any of you driving on the deep sugar sand roads? That stuff is nasty. I have 2 friends that get stuck pulling out of their driveways at least twice a month.
Also as Doba has said. Why go out and buy a $30k 2wd, when you can have it all for a few k more? The re sale value on that 2wd is gonna be a TON worse then the 4wd.

My point was, it's a damn shame they don't make a plain Jane truck any more, and I could give a hoot about the economics or resale or the big wigs vision of what we're "supposed" to be driving. If they made an affordable truck they would sell a ton of them. You shouldn't have to spend half of what you'd pay for a house on a basic work truck that will be worthless in 3 years.
Use my approach... 10 years old, 100k miles and 10% of sticker... focus on finding the best condition for the 10% of sticker and let the other numbers wiggle.
Nothing you buy will gouge you as much as those Lynch Display Vans do...
