1978 Bumper Heights
The chart reflects bumper heights on all vehicles covered in this service manual. The dimensions are for front and rear bumpers and reflect heights on standard built vehicles at curb weight. A general explanation of curb weight is a vehicle containing a full tank of fuel, correct tires with proper inflation, all oil and liquids to capacities and no passengers in the vehicle. A change in tires or modification to suspension or body weight will alter the dimensions slightly.
The dimensions are taken from a horizontal point across the bumper face bar at the upper most point of the bumper jack slot to level ground. To determine the point to measure from, refer to fig. 26.
The measurement would be from the top of the bumper jack slot to the ground.
BUMPER HEIGHT AT JACKING SLOT
The data showing on the chart are nominal dimensions subject to production tolerances of + or - 1" (inch) on front bumper and + or - 1-1/4" (inch) on rear bumper.
Based on the chart......
I assume that your Ny'er is a S series (2nd digit in your VIN)
Front bumper height from the top of the jacking slot to the ground is 18.9" (plus or minus 1")
Rear bumper height from the top of the jacking slot to the ground is 19.5" (plus or minus 1-1/4")
I hope this helps you. Let ne know what your actual measurements are. Thanks.
