I’ve had numerous inquiries recently regarding the 6BBL Sport Fury.

No I didn’t sell it. It isn’t sold. It’s not on offer currently.

There is a gentleman that fulfilled his dream of owning one recently, congratulations Charles!

I have wondered what happened to Dan's TX9/FK5 V-code GT....has to be one of my favorite colour combos on any mopar! I hope the restoration is coming along nicely.

Yes, they are both ambitious projects and they are both in good hands today.

Gotta give Dan some serious credit for gathering up the cars and parts as he did. Now he’s “passed the torch” on,..let’s get them back on the road, let the MoPar folks see them,..and in some fashion and we will meet again!

With a lot of luck, and help and persistence I was able to find and secure an original and date code correct for the car, original 1970 440 6BBL engine from a ‘70 Sport Fury GT 6BBL car PH23V0F147217. Tom at Rocket Restorations ran across a gentleman that said he pulled an engine from a 70 GT 6BBL engine in 76/77, and still had the engine in his shop. The car was B5 Blue, white bucket seats and console, white stripes and painted road wheels. He said in hindsight he should have just bought the whole car!

Needless to say, I pursued the opportunity and now PH23VOF143370 (my car) will have an original and date coded engine from another 6BBL GT, 147217. It is the closest I can get, aside from finding my original block. The cars were built approximately 3.5 days apart at the same plant!

So thanks to Tom and Evan at Rocket Restorations and everyone else that has helped. Sometimes it takes a village to get it done. It’s for the car, and not my ego!

Getting closer to making the car 100% original and date coded as possible!!!

Simply amazing! Is the donor 6bbl in the registry? Does that make #12 known?
It’s a previously unknown VIN/car so that makes 12 known VINs, two destroyed/crushed. One engine survives; although it’s still possible the car survived, but not likely.

Start looking guys & gals!!!

It seems more like a miracle than anything else to find another V code engine and then built very close to your original one!

Tom is also a very helpful guy and I often get messages from him notifying me of parts he has found that he knows I might want. I really appreciate him!

It is truly a miracle as Steve said to have found an original 6BBL GT engine. I keep pinching my self every day.

I did some automotive archaeology today…

Researching part numbers etc.

This is the first engine I’ve had where I was extremely happy that there were “stuck pistons” in it.

After looking up part numbers etc. The stuck pistons are factory “assembly line” pistons, 1970 2x3 BBL pistons. And the main bearings are date coded 1969.

The pistons, the double roller crank, 187 oil pan with baffles, original oil pressure “idiot light” sending unit, double roller timing chain, crank, 3 bolt cam, and 4 “notched” or specific “valve reliefed highly compression pistons and corresponding build plant e.g, VIN, all confirmed, with out a doubt, that this is an original 1970 engine from a Sport Fury GT 6BBL. And the engine is assembly date coded correct for the car! Unbelievable…..

It’s unbelievable……and I’m so very happy for the car.

Just curious Trev, would this engine block be a good candidate for acid dipping in order to return it to virgin metal as new or are there downsides for your purposes to doing that? I have had one done and it turned out awesome and looked like the block had just come from the foundry some 50+ years ago.
