Dennis. That's his name.

I bought the first one from Tom, it came out of the 73 Newport he parted, it was hit in the left front pretty hard (fender, hood, rad support, both drivers side doors repainted), I'm thinking that the force of the accident was enough to transfer it diagonally through the car..... I've seen it with other vehicles before, just weird that I didn't notice it till now, then again I wasn't looking for it really.

So I went to assemble the diff, only to realize I'm a schmuck and somehow ended up with 10x2.5 backing plates.... Which at this point I've sandblasted, epoxied and painted, including all the hardware....

So that was another minor set back until I dig up a set, God only knows what I did with the ones that I took off the car in 2017...

How the hell is that 3 years ago already?

So this morning at work I picked away at what I could do, I rethreaded every stud and nut, and reinstalled the gearset, I'm likely going to refinish the pinion yoke as it just doesn't look good enough to me.

I'll pop the axle seals out the afternoon and pop the new ones in, probably will install the new wheel studs also.

So, let's recap what I've done since Friday....

I popped the old axle seals out, only to find that the seals I bought two years ago are outers, not inners.... So I got my Mopar Uncle to track down a set for me.

Sunday I took a ride out to my favorite yard and pulled backing plates off a 71 Suburban.

Between jobs, I stripped the backing plates, cleaned them bare and then primed them, painted them...

At lunch I managed to assemble both brake assemblies, which are not correct for a A38 or PK packaged car, but with the drums on I'm not worried.

I hung out for a bit after my shift to finish things up, I just need to make up some lines and set the axle end play...

That is looking good. It's amazing what a little work, paint and new parts will do. I like the detail on it

Brake lines are done, left some wiggle room to put the U bolts on... Forgot to bring my dial indicator and stand so the end play adjustment will have to wait till tomorrow..

The amount of detail on this build is impressive, I'm guessing you have individual strands of wire that you will twist together to make your own E brake cables?:poke:

Not quite, Infact I just cleaned up and reused the ones I bought and installed on it back in 2015....how is that 4.5 years ago already?

But I feel a car that is like this deserves better, its survived all these years and crappy owners, it deserves to be reborn better then it ever has been.

It's the reason I got into restoring cars, it's the reason I bought the convertible, it gave me a lot of good memories and has lead to me meeting some azong individuals that I'm fortunate enough to call my friends.

I had a conversation this week with someone about hobbies and cost, I don't smoke, I don't really drink, I don't eat out, I work hard and make sure everything is paid, I drive an old truck, my wife has a newer ish vehicle, and I have savings that I don't touch for this, I enjoy it and really the cost is relatively low for me. The comparison I gave was smoking, I figure I maybe have 20k into this car by the time I'm done, if I smoked a pack a day for the same amount of time I would be around 27k with nothing to show for it.

My 2 cents worth I guess...

Just amazing work ! You truly enjoy working on these cars !

It's what I enjoy.

Anyway, back to our previously in progress program...

In the process of digging through the garage attic, I came across a set of 578/579 bars, I couldn't place them... So I mic'd the bars on the stub....

. 96

Crap..... Okay, so I put the wrong bars in.
Paint on them is kind of ragged, so that won't do for my car.... Working here has its upsides, I just wander onto the retail floor with my torsion bar in hand... Decided the self etch primer is the closest match, I'll clear it to give the the semi gloss sheen...

So I did that today, they turned out pretty good, it's fairly close of a match..

I also had time and Got the park brake cables on and put the drums on, all new studs and nuts of course.... I popped for the chrome open lugs just for my own satisfaction

Hope nobody notices the rusty rear in my car.:(

If you don't get out of the seat, no one will notice. :poke:

I doubt anyone will ever see this one, but I'll know it's how I want it, and I'll see it everytime I service the car...

I like to remind myself that I build my cars for me, so If it meets my anal levels of satisfaction, then we are good.

Between yesterday and today, I emptied the garage, emptied the car, matched up my T bars, they are pretty damn close I think.

Then this morning it was dead at work, so I stripped the old paint and rust off a bunch of stuff
