Impster - the big&white

Today we did stop at Diesel of Klaukkala to buy some nuts and light bulbs on the way to the garage. After an unknown amount of years the fan shroud is finally again attached where it is supposed to be and the flood lights of the instrument panel are replaced. On the next weekend we are going to glue the vinyl back to the C-pillars. The vinyl is just hanging down on both sides, which causes the yet uneven surface.

The top pic shows the condition of the vinyl top last summer and others what it looks like after gluing it back to its place. It´s not flawless, but it is better than before, so I guess I can be happy with the result. Now the two Duracell bunnies are about to paint and reinstall the trim and weather strip along with repairing the rocker panel right in front of the doors.

Here is the other surprise, which is not too bad. There´s no bondo with news paper under the paint.

That's great news! And once some sunlight hits that vinyl and gets it really hot, I think it will lay out nice and flat.

At least the hopes are high for that. Posting pics won´t stop (not surprisingly) when the driving season begins, so we´ll see what is the final result.

When is it good driving weather in Finland? Right now it's about the right time in central Minnesota.

It depends on the person and location, but May is a firm bet by the sunshine and that the ground is snow-free. Some drive in quite a bad weather if not even trough the year. A "back winter" may occur earlier and that means cold temperatures, snow and ice after the weather has already warmed up. Right now the temperature is bouncing up and down close to the freezing point and sometimes it rains water, so there is a big chance to get an unlimited skid pad.

I remember that some summer vacations in June have meant use of winter clothes at my grand parents in Oulu, ´bout 400 miles up north.:D

Even after using an angle grinder the front fenders are not very bad, but someone has found white paint with exceptional coverage. More trim went on Impster today as well, but I had to pull the right front door panel out to see, what´s wrong with the side window. It works every now and then, but for most of the it is skittish to come up.

That's not bad at all.

A couple of days in the sun will tighten up that vinyl easily.

Today I reinstalled some trim around the vinyl, but also found some rust spots on the dutchman panel. The right rear safety belt is back where it belongs.

The current air cleaner is a whole lot better than the previous even before rust removal and repainting it. The front side window is again operating correctly after repositioning the door panel.:)

The tape is to be trimmed before the first time out on the roads this year.

The new paint is a bit too yellowish, so Impster will get some exercise as a ride at the local paint shop, the air cleaner is repainted in black and the right fender molding is completed.

When I bought the blue bomber it also had a chrome air cleaner, was fortunate to find a stock one locally. Yours cleaned up very nicely, good job

I started to make poor man's fender skirt "clank deadeners" or whatsoever they are. Swedish K-profile window insulator is closer to E, IMO.

Today´s post includes close to nothing visually attractive. The headlight cover relay is a weird case, as it makes a ticking sound when the power is turned on and both the headlights and engine are off. I´m on the way to grab the FSM...

Today I got the internal parts of the right c-pillar reinstalled. The one and only reason for that shameful quick fix on the front fenders is that the welder told the fenders should be detached to weld those correctly and that´d mean spending most of the driving season inside the garage due to quite numerous parts attached to them. They´re on the to do list for next winter, when the fixes must be ground open a lot faster than this winter.
