I've been around Formals pretty much all my life and only now noticed another quirky thing.
There were 3 Newport/ New Yorker Front Bumper stampings used on Formals:
1974- Without cooling vents :
75-76 With cooling vents...Chrysler also changed the location of the Bumperettes outboard to accommodate the "new" vents. This was done in concert with new enlarged grille designs due to overheating complaints about the 74s in traffic:
And the "new one" to me...the 77/78 Square end stamping that incorporated the US updated collision requirement. On the Imperial (now NY) front bumper and Newport rear bumper this was done with add on guards, but Chrysler actually did a whole new front bumper stamping for 77-78 for the Newport/T&C. Note the "blocky" ends:
Can't believe I didn't see it before. A quick easy way to tell a 77/78 from the other years.
