Meet Maggie May!

Ok...This weekend we worked under the hood.
Pertronix ignition,new plugs,wires,cap and rotor.
Just to recall that the original motor was replaced with a later year reman .
The previous owner replaced the rotted out timing chain cover.
Problem is he got a 69=70 cover which has the timing marks on the left side.
The harmonic balancer has the timing marks for a cover with the marks on the right side.
To set the timing I use a vaccum gauge and my ears to get it close.
Despite having the gas tank and lines flushed, the carb needs some love.
The motor runs OK but now we have to work out the bugs that are associated with a car that sat too long.
So today Maggie took the car for a drive!!

The car has a very smooth ride!
But it needs the front sway bar!
I still have to install one i scored from a 69 440 NYer.
We drove the car to our friends house whom we bought the car from to show it off.
I took a few pics of Frankie while out in the sun.
Sharp car with the new white top..
Yeah yeah clean the whitewalls.
Today road testing was priority.

I’m sorry, Did you mention CLEAN THE WHITE WALLS???

Let me read again to make sure.. :poke::rolleyes:

Our friend John Morris who bought the car and sold it to us never drove the car--EVER!
When he bought it years ago he loaded it on a trailer and took her home.
She sat for 6 years til we bought it.
In this pic I am riding shotgun with John behind the wheel.
After the show n drive he wanted the car back!! Lol! But this one we will keep for a long time..

Good thing we talked to John about the car...
When he bought the Fury, it was parked for years due to the rotted out timing chain cover.
John did replace it and did a few other things them got parked again as one of the other 15 cars he has were more of a priority.
Being family owned car most of its life, the first owner was the typical old lady who never abused the car and kept it inside.
Her grandson needed transportation to and from university and was also driven by the son in law.
All the while the title stayed in her name.
Her name is Margaret-- same as my Girlfriend --Margaret!
The grandson was done university and when she passed away the son in law sold her house and inherited the Fury which sat outside until John bought it.
John never did get the title in his name.
So now the first and "second" owners name on the title both be Margaret!!
Hence the plate which is backwards on purpose MAGGIE05. Or Maggie May ( 5th month) My Maggie was born May of 1969. Plus the car is a 69.
The plate is also a shout out to the original owner Margaret Moore. RIP

That is a beautiful car.
Thanks! We have not even cleaned or detailed it yet!!
But a good example of buying a good car to start with and then work on it to make it better.
The BoaB was my first and last full blown nut and bolt resto.
The Fury and my wagon were good clean original cars to start with and that is my preference

Great story.. always like cars with full stories from new or close to new to current. She’s a keeper for sure.

I kind of dig the blue walls...

Looks great!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Who cares, blue walls, red walls whatever color. You have her out driving and enjoying it! Plus, you helped save it from rotting away, now others can see it and appreciate it.

Nice work and you should be proud, detailed or not!

We are happpy with the rogress so far and having fun at the same time.
There is still room for other improvements which we will ost up later.
We got the time since the border closures have been extended for the second time.

You cannot get much better than that. I am doing the same thing with my Imperial, unfortunately, I do not have it back on the road yet. But I am getting closer.

Today I put in a second set of spark plugs.
First set got fouled and the dead miss was found in #5...cracked insulator.
Fired her up after the NGK's and now all 8 candles are lit, lol!
Vacuum still not right and idle still rough.
With a flushed out tank and lines and new fuel filter the carb is the last weak link in the fuel system.
So I pulled the carb off andmy buddy James opened it up..
Yep...she will not run with the garbage inside the carb so time for a rebuild....
many thanks to James for helping me out .
