mini starter problems

got a mini starter for my 1972 newport and at first the gear wouldn’t extend. you could hear it spinning in place but it wasn’t engaging the flywheel. i warrantied it out thinking it was a bad solenoid. the new starter starts the car but the gear doesn’t go back in the starter and it sounds awful. flywheel isn’t chewed up. starter relay has been replaced along with the wiring to the starter.

Did you order a starter for a 91 Dakota with a 5.2 Magnum?
I prefer a Wilson mini starter.

1994 but yeah it should be the same one. we took a look at it and found out the shim was bent all to hell. straightened it out and it’s working fine. thanks for the reply

The Magnum engine didn't come along until 92.
