New forum..old face

Did a test fit with taillight housings and the stainless trim before welding it in for good.
This is important to keep the lines even.
The alignment holes match up......

...But the trunk lid gap on the right side is huge where I can stick my fingers between the lid and tail panel and tight on the left side.
More tweaking needed....Either the tail panel or the trunk lid..

No repop metal here.Just good old originals that fits like a glove..
Ya..I know it is a LOT of work chopping up two cars to make one panel BUT there is no repop for the C bodies.
It looks rough but once finished the trim hides all of it.

Edges hammered and dollied flat.
Prepped the edges to bare metal and weld through primer applied.
The panel still wears original paint.
I masked off the face of the panel to keep paint prep to a minimum.
This thing is ready to get welded back into the car..

Change of plan here...Not welding it in...BONDING it in!
Why?
For one,I can't weld two lumps of dog poo together.
Two,I don't have a mig--or anyone available to mig it for me.
Third and finally,The panel has been through enough torture from the removal and prep process and the welding will only add insult to injury with heat from all those welds--not to mention the amount of work involved.
The panel is not structure anyways and the tail lights add additional clamping power to keep it in place.
All the globs of weld will hinder the fitment of the stainless that covers up the mess I created.

Spent some quality time today "bonding" with the Boab LOL
This "glue" is nasty powerful sh*t!

After three hours I took off all the vise grips and C clamps.
I set the tail lights in just to be sure they will fit.

It is nice to have friends in the right places..
While I was getting my body shop supplies,I asked about some paint stripper.
That schuff is not cheap HOWEVER....They had a damaged can and not sale-able to the public.
Got it fer FREE!!!!

Today was a big day for me.
Cleaned up the garage for the next big step
Then pushed the Boab out to the middle of the shop to test fit hanging the front sheet-metal.

Years of waiting to get this far was an emotional moment.
Need to get some hardware to bolt everything together.
Over time bolts, speed nuts, etc were either broken, lost,or tossed.

Spent 5 hours after supper cleaning out the trunk, installing rear window inside garnish trim, hang and bolt on the other fender onto the car.
Batteries dead in camera, but will take pics tomorrow.
She is leaving on a truck Sunday!!

Front clip is secured, tires aired up and on the floor ready to go for paint tomorrow!!
