Engine runs smooth. But I need to go get a battery right now. So questions and observations will have to wait until tonight but stand by as there will be many I’m sure.

I hope you guys are as excited as I am.

While I wait for the battery.....

This ones for Bob 78 NYB

Build date 10-77, so its an early 78 model.
Here is the data plate and build date sticker pictures. Would appreciate the build plate decoded please.

Wow! Engine runs smooth and the Lean Burn appears to be still hooked up. I'm impressed!

Oil filter and coolant just arrived together with the battery.

Started right up and used the thermal cover I found in the trunk to check the battery size. Fits like a glove.

First order of business is to check the accel pump on the thermoquad. If you touch the accelerator pedal after start, it dies. Less so when warmed up.

Also, radiator is leaking. Car came with a spare radiator in the trunk. The extra radiator is going tomorrow to the radiator shop to clean and check it out prior to flush and replacement and filling. It’s only a two row. Did they make a three row? I live in sunny south FLORIDA and it gets hot.

Speaking of spares, it’s a space saver. Still has fill bottle.

And.... just for Stan .... the wipers work. Two speed with delay.

More later......

So far so good Bob.... she looks clean of any rust and needs a really good bath. But other than an off idle stumble (accelerator pump?), she runs good. Not driven her under power so we’ll just have to see how that pans out.

Advance Auto Parts has a 3 row for under $200 for a BB listed for a 78 NY'er. You can also get a new upper radiator hose from them. NAPA has the lower hose. You might as well replace those too. Some people only repair or replace parts when they fail. I'm the guy that bulletproof the entire system. Since I have the cooling system apart I would change the water pump $20-$30, thermostat and gasket, and the thermostat cover made of billet aluminum from 440 Source. And of course the heater hoses. Why not bulletproof it the first time and know you have 100% new cooling system.

BTW, the body color decals on the mirrors and the door handles are a 1978 only option and there isn't any replacements available on the planet. The taillght lens have silver paint piping or pin stripping that was also a 1978 only option.

I would replace the inner wheel seals while you are repacking the front wheel bearings and inspecting the brakes. If you replace the pads I would replace the rotors too. I also would replace the front brake hoses. I had the right front brake hose collapse and locked up the front brake when I drove it home when I bought mine.
