Newbie here ( part number )

Hey Folks,

I'm a newbie from Nampa, ID. I've got a 68 new yorker 4 door with drums all around. I'm in the middle of redoing the brakes and some of the suspension and addressing other issues. I've got this weird problem: napa lists a part number but they cannot get it from their warehouse. The front and rear shoes appear exactly identical. But they may not be identical in terms of holding force. Here's my question: what is the part number for the front shoes?

Howdy and Welcome!

In some model years, the NYs (and other C-bodies with the HD Brake option) got 11x3 brakes at both the front and rear. This would include the factory Trailer Option cars and (VIN model number) police vehicles, too.

Check the width of your shoes to verify they are 3" wide.

The shoes should be the same as the front/rear balance is done hydraulicly (sizing of the diameters of the pistons in the master cylinder and the wheel cylinders (frt to rear). NOT in the brake shoes specifically. In some model years, the front drums could be finned as the rears are smooth, too.

The default mode is to let NAPA do their thing and see if the shoes match what's is on the car now. The backing plates are specific to the OEM width of the brake shoes.
