OH NO! BLOCK IS CHIPPED

This is going to sound weird, but I once had material added to the chipped area of a block (where the head gasket rests) by a welder who then machined it flat. I agree this can be ground smooth and lived with, but if it really freaks you out, consider the option I mentioned (if you can find someone who will do such work). This was well over 10 years ago and I couldn't tell you exactly how it was done.....but it was done.
 
good news, I had the block boiled and magnafluxed. ALL IS WELL. Had to have her bored .030 over. New everything. She is being assembled now. Pictures will come later. Yes, they said 440 blocks are weak in that area. Again, I will not be racing it but I will keep the carbon from building up...
