Old Dealer Codes

PeugFra,

Sorry about the delay in getting this to you. Tried it in a PM but it came out as spam.

The only dealerships that I have listed in Mt Airy are:

#24022, Patterson Jeep-Eagle, 1935 Rockford St. Mt Airy 27030

#24022, Patterson & Associates, DBA Patterson Chrysler Dodge Jeep, 538 N. Andy Griffith Pkwy, Mt. Airy 27030

I think the last date on both Pattersons was 1989.

I checked the cities around Mt Airy and only came up with one dealership in Pilot Mountain which is close.

#43782, Foothill Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge, PO Box 68, Highway 52 & Cook Sch, Pilot Mountain 27041

Thanks for the info!

So how am I going to send you my list if the communication by PM doesn't work?

To which I can add:

#42526, Simmons Chrysler Dodge, PO Box 68, Highway 52 & Cook Rd, Pilot Mountain 27041; orig. 12-81

Foothill was probably later and took over the Simmons dealership but started with a fresh dealer account number.

Thanks for the dealership info.

Let's try this. My screen name in lower case letters at aol dot com

The 1986 list has:

#62656, Terry Chrysler-Dodge Inc., West Main St, Rogersville, TN 37857; orig. date 07-52

The others numbers you listed are not included in the 1986 list.

26000-29907 are Jeep Eagle dealerships. Probably generated when AMC bought Chrysler.......inside joke.

The range #23000-24999 in the 2008 file are also previous AMC > Eagle/Jeep dealerships. Take our Patterson:

#24022, Patterson Jeep-Eagle, 1935 Rockford St. Mt Airy 27030

They were already into Jeep before Chrysler took over AMC in 1987, per this booster plate:

I have a set of dealer codes from 04-18-86 and there are no dealerships listed as being in Mt. Airy or Pilot Mountain. When my buddy gets back from vacation, I'll see if I can borrow a couple of his earlier books. Aaaaarg.

That would be great! Any official list older than 1986 would be an important source of information.

As to Mt. Airy, NC, you'll probably need to go back to at least 1980-81 to find Mopar dealerships. Around that time Burton Dodge folded. They had been around since the sixties, originally as Burton-Jones Dodge.

Also from the sixties is Slate Motor Co., Chrysler-Plymouth, a used car dealer from the late forties gone Mopar. But around 1977 they changed their business model once again and switched to dealing construction equipment.

That's very interesting, because I have this dealer only with a Dodge account number:

54448 S.L. Savidge, Inc., 321 Lenora St, Seattle, WA 98121

as he was a Dodge-Plymouth dealer from 1933 on.

Above account number 39736 must have been assigned for his Plymouth-DeSoto-Valiant dealership.

SL had two different franchises, I think they weren't allowed to have all three makes under the same franchise. Funny, I've seen this pic a few times and I just realized I have one of the Dodge Dependable Used Car signs in the background on the left. At least the guy who sold it to me said it came from there.

You're absolutely right! The Plymouth-DeSoto(-Valiant) franchise was awarded in 1959. Before that Savidge was a Dodge-Plymouth dealer.

June, 1959 it was announced that Dodge-Plymouth dealers would have to give up Plymouth. Starting a separate franchise was a way to avoid that and that's where the P-D-V franchise comes in. In Savidge's case the parent firm took on a Plymouth-DeSoto franchise, still in 1959 adding Valiant, and in 1960 a separate Savidge branch, Dodge City, was established to handle Dodge sales.

Also in 1960 the parent firm added Chrysler-Imperial to it's franchise.

Now that was close! Code 17000 should have been in the Depot Dealer Directory, but it isn't:
