I searched but didn't see the ques.
I am rebuilding my engine and want to replace the stock 1962 dodge starter on a 361 w a current model.
Doesn't a starter from say a 94 dodge ram w a 360 fit?
If not which do you use to upgrade.
Wanting a newer part to make things easier to replace when needed.
Thanks, john

Not that this is gspel or anything, but I just checked Rock Auto. For your 62 361, my 68 440, or a 95 360 it listed this same starter as an option; POWER SELECT/WPS 17466N. So, one could deduce if the this starter is listed for all of these engines most any starter for a 90's 360 should fit and work.

You might be better off having the starter rebuilt

I doubt it would be necessary.

I have never experienced having one of the newer original high torque starters fail. They are amazing units and much smaller/lighter. If you don't care about originality where you can't see it or the different sound when cranking, they are a no-brainer. 361s are basically B engines and 1962 was the first aluminum torqueflite. So go ahead and use one - it will fit.

Then that means the later higher torque mini-starter would work? If so that's the way I'd go in split second.

Thanks, I was wanting a newer style for ease of finding parts.
John.

I just grab used ones out of the wreckers off any RWD V8/V6 magnum motors.....never had any issues with them failing, and for $25 a pop you can't go wrong. All my mopar V8's have been switched to the mini starters for years.

I've been using the mini starterz since they 1st came out on the LA enginez in '88 and I wouldn't have it any other way. Those little cuties were lunch box stuff and show up at the car show swaps in S.E Michigan back then! Had one on my 300 Hurst and got criticized once at a 300 meet because of the noticeably different sound when cranking. I just told the "PUTZ" that he could line up all the Phillips head screwz on his toyz and wax the lug nutz if he chose but the title for my carz were in my name so keep walkin' Clyde, Jer

I'm perplexed. I've got a 73 T&C 440 on which the original starter began working intermittently. I wanted to replace it with a mini-starter, so i bought one for a 94 Dodge Dakota 5.9L. I've done this before with no issue. Everything is installed, I turn the key and the starter just spins. Doesn't engage. Teeth were in good condition on the trans side. What gives? Any help appreciated :-)
