Today was an absolute perfect day to enjoy in a convertible. And the Imperial was just the car for the job! Last night, it rained like hell till about 5am. I was set to judge an open car show that the Mustang Club put on. Fortunately, by 8am the weather had cleared, and it was dry for the 29-mile drive. I didn't enter the car in the show. Didn't feel like spending an hour to detail it beforehand. I parked in the unjudged area and did my thing. I did discover that I want a Roush Mustang really, really bad! Finished judging, then went back home for a bit before going to an all-Mopar event at a restaurant that brought out over 65 cars. Mine was the only Imperial, of course! Ate dinner, then went home. Put 110 miles on the car today. I think that is my current most-miles day yet in it! I continue to enjoy top-down fun in the car. Late October is really the end of our top-down season.

That car just glides along at 80 mph. It just brightens my day when I get to drive it, especially with the top down. And its birthday was on September 7th - it turned 51. Took it out for a celebratory ice cream cone that day!

Saturday is the Hot Rod Hundred, a rolling car show that is going to be a "garage crawl", with stops at four car collections along a 100-mile route from east of OKC to near Tulsa. It's a rain or shine event! I have full confidence in the Imperial. It is going to be a fun day on the road with nearly 200 other pre-'72 cars and trucks. Pics WILL be produced for this one!

Well, I did the Hot Rod Hundred run today. Put 245 miles on the Imperial and it ran like a champ! Mileage was a tad over 14 mpg...not bad, considering the run itself was between 35-70 mph, and the ride home was at turnpike speeds (70-80 mph); and all with the top down. There were 213 cars and trucks that participated- a true rolling car show! We started near Pops in Arcadia, OK and followed Rt 66 through several small towns, and ended up in Tulsa. There, we visited three hot rod shops/collections very close to each other. Wrapping things up was a catered lunch of brisket, pulled pork and ham, along with all the fixins! I'll post some video and a few pics tomorrow. But in the meantime, here are a couple of pics of the Imperial. Had a great day!

That pic was on Rt 66, just East of Arcadia, Oklahoma heading West, taken about 6:15 am. Thanks for the comment, I like how it came out, too. Kinda has a surreal look.

Cars and Coffee morning today. Drove out with the top down, and started out abut 6:20 am. The Sun was just barely lighting up the darkness as I headed toward the store for fuel. Not much of a crowd at a gas station on a Saturday morning, but all eyes were on the Imperial. I am a bit of an attention whore when I'm in this car, I have to admit! So, off I ride! It's about 28 miles of all freeway driving to the event, save the last two miles. I pass a few hot rods and a couple of custom pickups heading the same way, and wave politely to them. Once there, I look for the contingent of Mopars that always get the back row saved up for the rest of us, and docked the big barge between a pair of metric Challengers. Not many old Mopars there today - my car, a friend's '71 Barracuda, a '72 Charger, a '68 Hemi 'Cuda clone (a magnificent car!!!) and a blue Superbird. Probably three dozen new Mopars there, alond with several Rams and a nice '15 FIAT Abarth.

One nice thing about living here is that the C&C event is year-round, on the first Saturday of every month. Even in December, there will be over 400 show up. In June of this year, over a thousand vehicles filled the parking lot of the Northpark Mall! It's a biggie!

Enjoy a few pics of today's event. I was in a ragtop mood, so you will see some non-Mopars in my little picture gallery today. Enjoy! I did!

IMG_2132.JPG No shows this weekend, just a little ride in the car with my son and our Chihuahua. This is only the third time my son has ridden in it, and the first in this car for my dog. Drove out to Tinker AFB. I wanted to get a few pics of the car in front of the EC-121D Constellation, which was the precursor to the E-3 AWACS. The -121s flew from 1963 through 1975 as a surveillance platform and as a weapons control system. This aircraft was mothballed in Arizona, and flown to Tinker in 1984 as a static display.

The picture is the three of us, taken by a young airman that was driving past. Pretty nice of him to take a couple for us!

Co-located with the Connie is the memorial to the crew of Yukla 27, the crew of the E-3 that crashed in Anchorage, Alaska in September 1995. There were 24 casualties; of which I knew 18. This is one of two US E-3s and one NATO E-3 that have been lost in crashes. No one was lost in the other two losses, although both of those aircraft were a total loss each.

IMG_2154.JPG More on the Imperial saga...Today was the final Cruisin' for Coffee event of the year for the Midwest City CofC, and they had quite a nice turnout! My friend in the 'Cuda and me were the very first there at 7:15am. They grew to right at 90 cars and trucks after 8:45 or so. I was going to do a little road trip to just West of Lawton this morning for an all-makes show, but with the overcast, I really didn't want to put the top up. Take note of the two Superbird/Imperial length comparison pics - they are the same length! So, here is the Imp, along with some of the other older Mopars and a few metric Challengers, too. Enjoy!
