Here's what I have from http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.org/ml-osterling65fendertag.html

Thanks guys. Here's what I know so far- the owner says the engine had been rebuilt at the college tech class- then he bought it from his buddy. Then, never fired due to someone stealing the AFB carter (which is why I questioned the Thermoquad on it). Now, why would you rebuild an engine with only 68000 on the car? Because the 426 was taking the place of the original 383. Heck, until I get under the car- it could even be a 413 or 440 with chrome valve covers. The only markings on the top pad were- H P, then 12 2 (build date, Jan 2, 2nd shift). no 426 or other that I could see.

Then I looked down at the license plate- 1976, which is why he can't remember too much- hell it was 40 years ago!! So, in other words- this car has been sitting for 40 years. Hopefully he has the window sticker which would have the VIN along with the title. The VIN plate could even be in the car somewhere. Didn't have the keys available yesterday, so the trunk is a mystery box right now. I'd also bet the build sheet is in the seats!

OH, BTW, is there any huge value in the radiator #2524986 ? Such as my 68 Cuda- which brings $700 any day.

I WILL solve the mystery- just might take a week. It's all about the hunt- right?

Do they not have auto part stores in the area why did he just not go buy a new carburetor. People are so lame but makes for a time capsule in 2015.

Because I have a real deal 426 4-speed, you can understand my interest/curiosity of what you have found. At this point, and I am only speculating,it looks like it may be a 383 car with an engine transplant. Still cool for what it is especially being a 4 speed car. If what you found pans out to be a real deal 426 car it would be the only other one that is KNOWN to exist at this time(with 4 speed). Rarity does not always mean $$$$ but I could care less about that, having a super low production odd-ball is where the thrill lies!! Once again, not an expert and someone else may chime in but the radiator is a 4 speed unit that I believe was shared among engine sizes and not specific to the 426. Depends on how bad someone needs it as to its' value.

Let's say the car here is an original 383 car. So what would the 426W that's in it be worth in the current state (assuming it needs gone through); $1000 ??

according to http://www.mymopar.com/radiatorspecs.htm the
2524986 radiator is for a 65 C-body with 413/426 and manual transmission. the plot thickens.

while it may end up being a Rare car. It will cost a lot of money to restore/rehab. Money you'll never get back if you sell it. So take that into consideration.

Suppose someone did a tag and engine swap from a 426 4 Speed car to a 383 4 Speed car?

Strange how ma Mopar would use a different radiator # for just the 413/426 & not the same for all the big blocks of that year. Thanks for the info. NOW you have us excited. The reason I asked the radiator value is because the old timer said years ago a guy offered him $500 for it- of course he said no.
Very odd then with the 99 engine code if it's the 426W car.
I'm not too concerned about the restoration cost (to a point). Been there/ done that. Thanks guys for all the research so far! I'll see if I can't expedite the whole deal.

Then it would code for a 426 SW (code 80) and not standard (code 99 383-4bb) engine.
The SO number would not match the body and, probably, not the paint and trim codes.

Which would be a common radiator for, most, '65 300s or a New Yorker. (read: replacement) There's no proof, so far, it's the original radiator.

Get the damn window sticker and match it to the car. Until then, let's quit guessing and speculating what this car is and WIW......

And the broadcast sheet if it is there.

highly unlikely the radiator was replaced from another manual trans 300/ NY. No need for language brother- just looking for some help & guidance while we wait. Here are the pics of the rad, engine and tag. Didn't take any of the car- as the place was dark.
Q- did the 413's have a dual point dist.? This supposed 426 engine has one.100_1625.jpg100_1627.jpg100_1628.jpg

Here is a pic of my data plate. Shows the "80" under AB. as you already saw from the breakdown on my other Monaco with the 383, "99" (which is "62") is under AB.

The common radiator for most Chryslers would be the 2524989 413/426 Automatic.

Look for the ID pad.
On "RB" engines the cubic inch displacement is stamped on a pad located at the front of the block. "B" engines have a similar pad located on the right side of the block near the base of the distributor.

The 426W should have the pad in the same place as a 440. If the pad is in the same place as the 383 in your Barracuda it's a 383. When you find it it will have the displacement stamped into it. Plus some other info.
to help read the pad.

426 or 383 4-speed C-Bodies are not that common. In any case it's a great find.

thanks Kelly- I'm familiar with the pads. There is no 426 on the pad unless its hiding. I scraped it off pretty well only to find a H and P kind of separated, then below in bottom left corner 12 then 2. I thought for sure it would show 426. I'll have to bring some emery paper when I go back, along with a better camera, alot of $$$, and a tow dolly.:eek:ccasion14: Cheers!
