If your not sure about the correct speaker ohms... higher is safer, but wont be as loud. Fine for a quick function test... you still can't guarantee it will function after being shipped, even with careful handling.

Sorry for the delay in response tallhair. I've been playing lumberjack in my backyard . I've cut 41 trees since Wednesday and have been cutting and burning brush since. I'll get some pics posted up today but I don't have an older radio as an example. I've got a newer kenwood but the principle is the same.

Okbso basically you have 3 wires to worry about for power.
In my experience 90% of the time the colors are
red-remote/ign switch,
yellow- constant
Black- negative/ground
Some older factory will have color variations and some will be grounded by the body of the radio to the metal dash or the antenna . To ground a body style you can fasten a wire to the body of the radio them to negative on the battery. To ground an antenna style ground it's easier if you have an old antenna to plug in and ground to the battery. The antenna wires are coaxial. The ground wire in a coaxial is the outer most wire in the coating. I simply hook the power wires and ground to a battery,
when it comes to the 2 power wire I simply connect them together then attach to battery.
I've never had the need to ground the battery itself. Hope this helps!!

Honestly....... I have no idea! I've had them for probly 10 yrs or more. I just looked and there's no manufacturers name on them. I'll do a lil dign on net. At a guess I'd say they are Scosch.
I think he's checking older factory radios. For an AM radio, red will be +12volt, orange for the light and light green/dark green for the speaker. Ground to the case.
No constant DC feed with the older radios.
