Don Garlits Show - 2016

Sorry we didn't stay longer, we didn't catch up to anyone for a couple hours, good to finally meet you Jeff.
We'll be at Carlisle in Lakeland next weekend if anyone goes!

PS It was a gorgeous day for a drive!!

I made it to the Gartlits show for the first time ever on Saturday. Nice show. There were alot more vendors than I expected, but I didn't buy anything. The 66 Fury vert in the car corral was mighty tempting, but my buddy and I are already towing a 69 Dart convertible home to Virginia, when we leave Florida later this week. We came to Florida so he could check out a 62 Studebaker Hawk, 63 Mercury Meteor, and 67-68 Cougar. But it was the Dart that he ended up choosing. I will be thinking about that 66 Fury vert for a while and may still call about it if it hasn't sold by the time I get home. Our original plans were to attend the show both Saturday and Sunday. It was a very long drive from where we are staying in Oviedo. With that in mind we decided to skip Sunday. Hope I didn't miss many cars that may have only been there on Sunday. 2016 Don Gartlits Mopar Show | Facebook

Sorry for the delay getting my pictures up of the Garlits Meet. I've been wrapped around the axle ever since I got home.

My Garlits adventure began with the Auto Train. To avoid any hassle, I arrived early. . .

Loading the car went pretty easy.

And then I was confronted with a reality that sometimes occurs with trains. . .

DSCF2250.JPG

Was supposed to depart from Lorton, VA for Sanford, FL at 4:00 PM, but was not permitted to board until 9:45 PM.

Nice car and nice seat. But. . . if you ever do this trip, make sure you get a sleeper / roomette. Ya just can't get any sleep in a seat.

Arrived the next day at around 3:30 PM. Shoulda been there at 9:00 AM. Got the "Parts Car" off the train at around 5:00.

The next day (Saturday) I arrived at Garlit's Museum and parked with the other C-Body folks.

I found some familiar C-Bodies: Stan's NYB, Jeff's New Yorker "Parts Car", and Wil & Ellie's wagon.

Since the guys were already out roaming the swap meet, I took a stroll around and took a few photos:

This is how Jeff's Parts Car will look next year. . .

This car is the '62 Plymouth Savoy I mentioned in another thread. Its got a 383 / 343 HP engine with two four barrel AFBs.
DSCF2281.JPG

I think this '62 is the next step in the evolution of Chrysler's drag race program. Its a 413 with ram induction. It replaced the 383 car (as depicted above). I saw a car like this one put ALL the Chevy 409s on the trailer at Aquasco Drag Strip back in '62. They were running four speeds and the Plymouth was using a TorqueFlite.

Here is another '62 with a 413.
