Wollfen's 1971 Sport Fury GT !

Update, sure, no pics, nothing to see for now but i just got a new accelerator pump that can handle ethanol blended gas this week plus the thermostatic choke arrived in the mail today so I will be fitting them. I will let everyone know the results after it is done.

Okay, latest update, auto choke fitted and car seems to run better, its a bit easier start with all those parts but I do have to rev the engine above idle for a small time before it settles down, even with the auto choke closed. I noticed one time that unburnt fuel coughed back up the throat one time, leading me to believe it may be getting too much? Cant say for sure. I haven't taken her on an distant run yet.

Gary: Isn't there a cam in the linkage that kicks the idle up when the choke is initially engaged? Seems like I remember having to kick the gas pedal - once the engine starts - to get the idle to come down off that cam.

Yup you are right, this disengages pretty quickly when i start the car, mainly because i have to pump the accelerator a bit to keep the engine going initially. I know its an issue with initial fuel flow I have to address, I might screw up the idle mixture screws(out) to allow more fuel in during idle.

Does the carb have a fast idle screw? Usually that will allow it to idle at a higher RPM once it is off the first step of the fast idle cam but before the choke is fully released. Don't think your idle mixture screws will have much effect on when the fast idle cam is still engaged.

Unburnt fuel could be rich mixture for sure, or a plug not firing when cold, or irregularly. Any sign of fouling?

You're getting there!

Gary: I just finished reading this entire thread again. Again - You are awesome!

Last time I saw you, there was a potential problem with your radiator cap leaking. Did that prove to be a problem at all? Also, I assume you have finally chased down and killed off all the gremlins you encountered last year, and you're back on track for Carlisle this year.

What is the latest ?

I replaced the heater valve under the hood and now that I have full pressure in the cooling system I have discovered a leak somewhere around the rear edge of the drivers side exhaust manifold, I'm going to guess it is an exhaust stud, and it so happens to be in the most difficult spot to get to, sighs, hopefully the weather gets warm very soon. i will deal with that issue and I should be close to calling the mechanical gremlin done.

This advice from Chief Dan George: "Continue to endeavor to persevere!"

So I finally pulled the trigger and bought a vinyl roof for the car. It looks good with nice quality vinyl, heat sealed seams and proper proportions. I paid about $180 for it so the price is good too. Made in Virginia by Newstalgia Parts. I won't be putting it on until next year when the weather is warmer. I'm not looking forward to having to pull the front and rear windshields and side chrome again. Blah.

Thank you for being the guinea pig... sounds like Newstalgia Parts is a winner.

I had not heard of them till now. How does the grain look?

Remove glass to install the vinyl?

Maybe Formals are different.....the glass didn't come out on my 78 NYB to replace the vinyl.

I don't think you need to replace the glass, per se. Just the trim. However, it'll be difficult making sure you have enough glue on those ends and applying enough pressure to get it tucked in the channel.

Yeah when I removed the original vinyl off the car it was glued in place under the trim clips and the trim clips screw in before you can put the glass in. Some of the 71 model clips are the type that push on though but not all.

That's right. The trim clips do get put in on top of the vinyl. You would think I'd know that seeing as I just installed mine a few months ago. How soon we (I) forget. haha.

Think you can see em here.... Light blue clips in the front, brown clips for the back. For '70 at least.
