what made up your mind to move Dave?

When I went from Fayetteville, NC to Washington DC, God that was a fun drive! People stopped to look at the guy with a flat tire? Dead stop, all 3 lanes? Yep. Learned not to get off the freeway and try back roads. Coming back was much better. Every mile I went South felt better and better. I was so relaxed when I was in NC I almost forgot to take my exit! Living in a densely populated area take a certain mentality. I could do it, I appreciate the things it has to offer, but I'm glad I don't have too. My girlfriend, it would kill her, she's a farm girl, and you can't change that, her 2 sisters married farmers.

Dave, by the time you move, I should have permanent storage available to mothball the fleet, then when you decide you can have your cake and eat it too, they will be there waiting for you.

I'm probably saying this to motivate me to start getting things done so I can have said storage in the next 5 years!

I understand completely Carsten , i bought the house many years ago with the intention of never leaving. Everything changes, neighborhoods, people, jobs, life style , age, desires. I've found I can live without the cars now.
If I did need another I can always get back into them. That's if I sell out.
With your standards to meet... you'll be better off staying with the ones you've hand selected.

At least you have decent tunes on the radio. I have Sirius xm in both my metric rides.

As you see I wasnt driving today. We went to the fall Carlisle event. I get the honor of driving my crew to the AACA event in Hershey next Friday .

I just cant wait to drive through all that

How was Carlisle Dave? I had heard that they let in a bunch of flea market crap now.

Yeah, you get a lot of non car related items but they are space fillers. Chilly weather, mostly cloudy with a crisp fall breeze. It is Carlisle however and the last go round for the season ... My beef is they start packing up on Saturday. If you go to Hershey you gotta go Mon-Fri for the swap ... Most vendors are gone by Saturday morning. If you like shows then go there Saturday

Dave, I feel you pain. Taxes will be the death of me unless I get out of Illinois. From what little I know, Jersey is pretty brutal on taxes too.
Every time I turn around, Illinois politicians are hitting us in the pocket for more and more, but they can never have enough.
I live in a nice neighborhood by choice. Built in 1999. My taxes were $4200/yr then. Now they're creeping up close to $9K for my little cul-de-sac lot.
New York's former mayor, Michael Bloomberg is running ads on the local TV stations endorsing the soda-pop tax Crook county just passed. I'm thinking to myself, "What's he gaining by advertising here"?
I don't drink much pop, but I am told the new tax equates to 0.87 on a 2 litre of soda pop. What a rip-off.
I quit smoking over 15 years ago when a pack of smokes were going for $5. Now smokers are forking over somewhere in the neighborhood of $10/pak...mostly because of the sin taxes these politian's created years ago.
The commute in Chi-town is no treat either. Construction going on everywhere, and now every road that seems to be built or "upgraded" now includes tolls to drive on them. Not long ago, tolls were .040. Now they're $1.10 or more if you don't have an I-Pass. Oh, they charge for that too.
Some of these roads have a toll on them every two or three miles...total BS.
My wife has heard me ***** for the last few years how badly I want to leave, but I am kind of trapped for now with having my own business here. I'd have to find a buyer before I can go, and when I do leave, I don't want to work anymore.
Tennessee has been looking like the direction I would go. My wife has a cousin with a house outside of Nashville on 52 acres and she the was told they pay $1200/year in property tax. I don't know if I believe can that, but she has no reason to lie about it.
Next year we are planning to go down to Tennessee to check out the area and find what amenities are close by.
When I hear stuff like how little people are paying in different places throughout the country, it makes me realize where all my money is going, and where it will continue to go, as long as I am in Illinois.
I hope you find your ideal location when you decide to leave your home state.

Probably true. Tennessee is a nice choice. Housing is cheap if you look and the weather is mild overall. Have a friend in Cape Coral Fl that says I need to move there. He loves it. Another is in Phoenix and is happy. I'll probably rent someplace first & then decide when the time comes.

Dave, I hear you and understand. We have a tentative 3 - 5 year plan to relocate, probably to North Carolina.

I love this view, I've hiked it once, from th back side. I never need or want to drive over 30 when I'm here, I'm that relaxed.

I see a lot of you have x-year plans. I set in motion a 10 yr. plan but a lot of curve balls were thrown at me. I had to make a decision. Stay on the ten year plan and have more money at the end of it or, shorten the plan to five years and have much less money. I chose the less money route and I'm better off for it.

If they put all of that crap in one area that's fine, but when I go to a swap meet I don't want to spend time/energy walking past a bunch of spaces full of stuffed animals, or toys, or some such crap.
I'll be at Hershey on Tues., Weds.,+ Thurs.
Fri., Sat.,+ Sun. I'll be recuperating. :D
