What a Rush

Meanwhile, back in Texas..

Also, any idea on the largest tire on a 15x8 rim will fit? As far as upgrading the stock rear suspension, any pointers would be nice and possibly upgrading the front as well. This car will be more for around town vs the strip.

This car is set up for strip. We toasted a stock u-joint and that was the incentive behind the Strange 60 (improved Dana 60 clone) and biiiigggggg old 1350 u-joints. While we’re at it, we’re putting in a race-specific version of a torqueflite 727. This axle has a lowering block and a 2.5° shim to help with drag racing. The differential is a spool, not a street car by any means. We’re also adding a roll cage and wheelie bars. A parachute ois likely to be on the short list too. I’m not going to be surprised if it breaks into the 10s. The math says it’s possible.

As far as street goes, the stock axles and differential are really good. We’d still be running them if the car didn’t have so much horsepower and weight.
I do recommend a clutch-type limited slip center section if you intend to step on the go pedal. They help to keep from slinging the car sideways.

I’ll get back with tire dimensions tomorrow. I’m tired.

Thanks man, up here in Co I'm loosing a lot of HP(altitude) and would be facing some of the same issues as you're facing at sea level with that kinda of power for sure;)

We’re just barely able to “fit” a 295/65R15 by jacking up the (connected) frame on one side, until the wheel is up on that side. Then, the valve core is removed from that tire and it’s a magical incantation and hold your mouth just so..
It’s not a good fit and the Caltracs make it possible to keep them from rubbing.
It’s tight as can be.

I cleaned up the front spring eye bolts and peened the corners to make the threads lock again. It’s medium strength thread locker time too. I won’t tighten them until the weight of the vehicle is on the suspension. In fact, they’ll not be “tight.” The springs and bushings on a drag race car need to travel freely or you’re asking for trouble at the starting line.

Specifically, I mean a leaf spring suspension should not bind. Shocks and Caltracs are used to properly and safely control suspension travel. The pivot points must be free to pivot, but not wobble around.

Hey folks! Dad and I have been working on Rush every day for the last two weeks. We are working on swapping transmissions and eventually getting a measurement for a new driveshaft. Good news is the old tranny is out! Bad news is the new tranny has issues... Sort of. The trans is aluminum cast thus the threads for the pan all need to be helicoiled. Lots of prep work tonight to get it ready to go in. More updates will follow soon!
Also, for those who care, I am starting school in Ohio again this coming February. I've realized that working on cars is my passion and there's nothing I'd rather do with my life than that. I also got a new dog named "Hemi". He's a blast!

Why are you working on the car outside? No room in the building?
We are still in the process of moving. Only room for one car in the shop and that belongs to Lone Star. I'm just happy to not be working in the gravel anymore .

Horvaths, almost got mine finished as well. Still have plans for fuel cell, electric pump and 11050/1200 cfm carb and brake upgrade but that's next yr;) Your car is coming around very nicely! Here's mine so far, 505 stroker

Well no dyno numbers bc I don't want to waste the cash till the upgraded fuel system goes on. I'm in Co so I loose a bit but sea level was aiming for mid 6-700 at the wheels. I can tell you it pulls the driver side front right up and it just roast the tires sides just about,
Looks great man! Any engine pics? Power numbers?
so with some slicks should pull even harder;)

Powernation Magic 512 build is what I model it by;)
I remember watching that on TV when it came out. That was going to be the recipe for our original engine build for Rush. I have tentative plans to build a 505 for the Moose using a similar recipe. :)
I'm very happy to see more people hot rodding C body's and enjoying the hobby for what it is. Thank you for sharing!

Transmission is in! Still need to put the upper bolts in and mount the torque converter to the flex plate, but I'm pleased with our progress for the night.

We are too! We got it bolted up and almost ready for fluids. We’re going to need to get a few odds and ends done, like flexplate to torque converter bolts, cooling lines, and such. Then we can let it down and take measurements. The only catch to that is the fact that the rear suspension isn’t fully tightened up and the shocks haven’t been relocated yet. It’s all good, we will get it close enough for government work.
