68 Polara restore back on

Icing on the cake, I was in Denver earlier this week and will go back again Monday. I brought my Dad back with me for the weekend to visit and show him his old car. It was a great feeling taking him for a ride and going to a cruise night.

12 year old battery bit the dust. It sat idle many years during the restoration.
I found a yellow battery topper kit on e-bay. It actually came from Europe. (Maybe something to do with licensing?). Anyway found a flat top group 24 Fleet Farm battery 650 CCA for $94. All the 725 CCA batteries were about $160.
I took off the stickers and put my kit on. Probably not 100% accurate, but looks better than a modern looking battery.

Hey it’s engraved and I still have the tags. I would have to get another $25 kit though.

Beautiful car. Gives me the itch to restore my survivor 67. Only original once though.
Where did you get the battery top and sticker?
E-Bay $22 Including economy shipping. I think it was a couple of weeks. Weskcar, from France (at least that's where the stamps were from. They have all kinds of classic battery stickers and caps. The caps also have Mopar on them in raised letters. These guys even have Vintage Fire Extinguisher stickers. (I suppose to make them look period correct for your car)

I looks like it fits better than my 24 series.

Good ol' Fleet Farm (or Farm and Fleet in Iowa).

It is probably about time to post my wanted list. At this time the crowning Cherry would be my body sill trim that goes under my door. NOS seems to be pretty elusive.
I did find some a few years ago, but didn’t have the cash at that time as I was getting hit pretty hard with my painting bills.
I do have my originals, no pitting, but dings and dents galore from growing up on a gravel road. Because they are so long and straight. Nobody wants to touch the straightening job.

WOW!!! That would be extremely time consuming and would require some extreme patience. I won't say it can't be done, but wow.

It’s such a long straight line and flat piece that it would be next to impossible get it to where you wouldn’t get ripples.

Yes your dad looks very proud n happy as that car is looking so good .... those 7’ pieces are still intact and don’t seem to have any rust holes like my wide anodized aluminum trim on my 67 Monaco 500! Anyhow I tried to get mine repaired n refilled but all the bragging sites I inquired to backed off on the job so I’m still looking for better replacement moldings but they also are very rare. Yours might be stainless and very repairable for the right experienced guy. Maybe advertising your special situation accross the country here might help but I haven’t been lucky.... yet ... take care n enjoy you C body

No they are anodized aluminum and nobody really wants to touch them.
I might strip them and start tapping on them I have nothing to loose. (But time) The good news is they are fairly thick, so can take some sanding.

Didn't know they were aluminum, I figured they were stainless.
Oh how I wish they were stainless. There was one company in California and one in MSP that I may check out.
California one will strip, straighten, etch and re anodize. The MSP one will strip and straighten, but then send it away for anodizing, to California. Same place? I think I would be lucky to get it done under $900
$875 was the delivered price I passed on a year ago.:BangHead:
I am not going anywhere soon, I will keep looking.

I am going for my sill trim (shown a couple posts above). I am on vacation until Jan 2nd so maybe can spend some quality time bumping the dents.

I made a trough out of a large plastic rain gutter and sprayed it down with easy off oven cleaner to strip the anodizing. I need to make a back dolly to mount in my vise to hammer against. Maybe I will start a process thread and save this one for the results.
