Vehicles are placed on our floorplan line of credit the minute they leave the factory. The Manufacturer offsets the interest with inventory credits for a short period but after 90 days we are paying finance charges on every vehicle sitting on the lot.
 
I've had people wanting to buy my Passat, but with the Diesel that gets 40-42 mpg hi-way and 34-36 in town, I'm quite happy with the Volkswagen. There are three dealers in the Metro, plus at least three really good Indy garages that are VW/Audi specialists, so service and parts are both pretty reasonable in costs.

The one thing I really want is AWD. If I'm going to drop that much change, it's gonna be AWD. We had a Ford Edge with AWD that was fantastic to drive in the winter and I've even thought about going back to something like that... Problem is I really like a car over a crossover or SUV. I did ride in my son's Edge a couple times and they redesigned the interior to the point of where it's more comfortable than ours was, so that still pops up on my radar.

If Ford still sold the Taurus, I'd be thinking about one. I've got a good Ford dealership near me... This Dodge dealership is unknown territory... The Chrysler/Dodge dealers around here have gotten pretty bad. I swore off Chrysler products because of quality and really crappy dealerships. It may be redeeming to some degree that most have gotten absorbed into some giant corporate multi brand "super store" but that is probably going to be pure hell for me... The Ford store is still owned locally and at least they give the illusion of caring.

We picked up a 2018 Ford Edge Sport about a year ago with 10K miles on it. Car was essentially new. The Sport apparently has ALL the options: AWD, twin turbo V-6, remote start, etc. and a lot of standard technology. It is a great car. Easy to get in and out of, comfortable firm ride, and its pretty practical as regards hauling stuff and people around.

We had a 2007 Edge that was primarily Mrs. Big John's car. There was a lot of good to say about it, but we had racked up the miles and it was time to send it down the road.

My primary gripe with it was the seats. I couldn't get comfortable on long trips, but it had also replaced the Caddy Eldorado, so my expectations were high. Otherwise, it was good. For some reason, the hood rusted through. The Ford store actually tried to warranty it for me because it was something they had never seen, but Ford said "Too many miles" and that didn't fly. If I had kept it, the hood would have gotten replaced, but I had a chance to trade it and my company car (which had become mine as part of my retirement) on the Mercury.

My son's Edge is just enough different... and he used to sell Fords, so he's up on what's going on. I'm really tempted to look at them too... As said, anything I buy is going to be AWD.
 
No more new cars for me, I bought a new 2012 Ram 3500 Cummins four door 8 foot box, and used it mainly to haul cars across country once in a while. I paid 39,800 for that truck in Jan 2013, and recently the local dealer offered to buy it back for 38k cash. I said then what next? I have to pay 70K plus to replace it? Money is certainly being devalued as we speak!

I think you would like the Edge Sport: paddle shifters, twin turbos and AWD - plus all the new technology - some of which you can turn off. I've driven mine on a few long trips from Maryland to NY state, etc., and the seat for me was no problem.
 
My truck needs are pretty primitive! I just sold my 1968 Fargo D100 to a guy in SC this week. It'll be picked up in a few days by transporter. So, replacing it is a 1969 Dodge D300 cab & chassis that I'm working on. It's white with blue interior, running a stock 318, NP435 4-speed, 4.10:1 Dana 70 regular cab. It has 70K real miles on it. First 20 years of its life was in northern California, and the past 32 years have been in southwestern New Mexico. Very solid! It is THE most rust-free Sweptline truck I've ever owned. Ever! I'm currently looking for an 8-1/2' flatbed for the '69. I had new tires installed two weeks ago, and have it running real well. I'm working on getting the lights to work now. It has a heater, factory AM, power brakes, and full factory instrumentation.

In the future, I want to install a 4BT Cummins with a later five or six-speed manual trans, and retain the 4.10 gears. And I'm sure the lovely missus will insist I install air conditioning, if we end up getting a small travel trailer to spend three-day weekends and such in.

I've owned several Diesel trucks before (four Dodge, one Ford, one IH Travelall) and really like them. But have you seen the prices on '89-'93 first-gen Cummins-powered Dodge trucks lately? They are skyrocketing! A truck I could've bought a year ago for $10K is easily double that, now. I refuse to spend $50K or more on any truck. It doesn't make sense.

The seats in my son's Edge are definitely better than the ones in our '07. I think his is a 2018.

The local Ford store has several on the lot, even some decent looking used ones. I may call today.

If you read my post about a friend selling a '97 Ford for $30K last year I actually got a reasonable answer as to why the guy bought the truck. Said he could buy the '97 with cash, it would do everything he needed it to do, it doesn't have all of the electronic crap on it that he doesn't want, and he can still work on it himself. The same truck new would be $60K+, so that's in part why these old trucks and SUVs are commanding these seemingly ridiculous prices.

The Jeeps are the same. My '03 just keeps climbing.

I agree, and that 5.9 Cummins is the number one sold Diesel around the world. many are still sold every year, bread and butter money for Cummins.
I bought one of the few 2012 models left, as They did not require DEF. Ram built 2012's thru dec 31 2012 to make as many as possible before the law change. I am told any pre 13 still sells for more than 13 model year up. and a 96 %.( redone brings a huge amount of money today.
 
I don’t expect to buy another truck. I presently own 2 F250SD w/7.3 turbo diesel 4x4 crew cab short beds (2000 and 2003) and a 2001 F250SD 4x2 with a 5.4l gas engine. I expect that the diesels will outlive me.
I will probably end up buying another car or crossover, as we will want to get rid of the better half’s Caddie XT5 before it starts becoming a $ pit. No idea what we’d buy to replace it.
