Trans upgrade

I was trying to learn. I asked the question because I did not know about cutting off bell housings. I thought 727 might have had a bolt on bell housing at some point.
I don't know where this thread left off.
But yes , the bellhousing gets cutoff.
I took my time with a sawzall & angle grinder. It's really not a bad job. The other option is bringing it someone with a mill , but I'm cheap and don't have patience.
The bellhousing comes with hardware & gets bolted to front pump.
I would say if someone is racing the Ultrabell is an SFI bellhousing and its an extra layer of protection between my feet and my convertor. It's thick aluminum.
It says 727 but the 46RH is basically a 727 with the OD unit .
 
Honestly, why NOT consider a gear vendors under/overdrive? It has two modes, automatic where it'll shift into OD on its own at 50ish, and manual that allows you to split shift ALL the gears, basically giving you a six speed close ratio trans. Tach it up to 4500 in low, and toggle the gears, 1st low, 1st high, 2nd low, 2nd high, 3rd low, overdrive. Keep the motor in the peak of it's torque band and get maximum acceleration. And you don't have to bash out the trans tunnel, jack with the linkage, I think the cross member even stays. You still have to shorten the driveshaft but you'd have to do that anyways with a swap.
That's what I want in my 73, it requires the least invasive modifications and it offers more gears. And I get to keep all the goodies I already invested into my 727. (2.77 1st gear, redline clutches, stage 2 shift kit, deep finned oil pan, 2800 stall convertor)
