Last May I paid a visit to my buddys place in Tennessee on our way to Michigan and he had just picked up a really nice, original Diplomat coupe with A/C and a six. A pretty rare car with low miles that ran and drove nice. He said he wanted to put a 440 in it and I thought I had talked him out of doing that to such a nice original car.
This week end I was back up there and this is what he had done. I have to admit it is pretty cool. We went out for a ride and it was like 1969 all over again. It would spin the tires through 1st and 2nd gear. He has a 4:10 Dana he wants to put in it now.

Cool. I've always liked the boxy shape of the Dippys ... especially when they have the cop wheels and white letter tires.

I see the certified speedo. Some type of municipal car?

They 440 seems like its right at home in there

Some poor E-body was used as a doner for the 440?

Great looking car, I have owned, more of my share of 78 thru 88 M body cars. The 440 in it has got to make it run like a ape. Now you got me wanting to build another one.

He put the certified speedo in it. He has a few wrecked police cars to pick parts from.

Stan, Your Bias Towards Ebodys and Vinyl tops, Is most upsetting too me.
Don't let it bother you. I just was never a Pony Car guy. My father took me to a Ford showroom on the day the Mustang was introduced. I was 14 and I couldn't see what the big deal was.

Did he use the Schumacher motor mounts ?

Nope, It's all Mopar. He swapped out the entire K frame with a HD police unit.
The engine is a 77, but it hauls the little diplomat quite well.

Did he paint the engine orange? 77 440's were blue.

Years ago, I remember one of the Mopar mags having an article on a Diplomat wagon with a 440 transplant. Lot's of homework to get the right pieces, but it looked like a great package.

I thought about doing something similar back when NYS was dumping their old Diplomat trooper cars for a dime a dozen.

You know I hear a lot of folks say that. Never knew they made them in 2 door. Funny thing is these cars came out when I was in high school. 77-78 ish. There where more 2 doors running around than 4 back then. That includes the Volare/Aspen cars. Now today 4 doors are about all you see.
