Saw this one on ebay Sun night and was immediately smitten.

Didn't have my usual skeptic-eagle-eyes turned on - I didn't even notice it has no AC and is pretty basic, I guess the red & white & Road Wheels had my attention. And the description makes it seem like a dream car ready for mild TLC.

So it seems, with the description in this discussion that the seller is being very honest, and having so many cars sold off, some to museums, etc, that rust under the vinyl top doesn't sync with all the stuff I've highlighted in the ebay ad. Ignoring rust under a roof is a rookie mistake, and it sounds like he's not a rookie. ???

As I look at this one closer, there are small clues that, at a minimum, the VT is shrunken. At he passside corner we should see more of the curve of that trim? And it's popped up on the driverside for sure.

And the doorlatch pins are painted. Is that typical? Maybe car has been repainted?

And both sides, the C-pillar has a shadow right where the quarterpanel meets the roof. Odd.

"...the one factory mag that was on the left rear is in the trunk as the tire goes down" What does this mean?

My pins are painted (in original paint) as well. I believe this was factory applied.

My original vinyl top has some type of ghosting here as well. This is probably where the seam is between the QP and the roof. My quess is that the body filler somehow affects the aging of the vinyl over the years. On mine, this is where the vinyl is in the best condition (less cracks). Who knew?

'tire goes down' means the tire has a slow leak and won't hold air.

thanks for the info on the doorpins, I no longer have a Fusey here to check, and no pics of my past cars showed the pins.

Well, a CL ad is back up -- the asking price is now $9,500 -- even though there are fewer pics than on eBay where, 1 day before the end of the auction, there is still zero bid (no reserve auction, starting price of $6,900). Call me confused...

It has no fender skirts.

The 4th one is said to be in the trunk. The tire would not hold air, so a spare is on.

originally he put it on craigslist for 6500$
He expected many lowballers and was maybe willing to take 5k $ in the beginning.
Then he got a lot of interested people.
Result: delete craigslist ad and put it on ebay for 6900 $ no reserve, hoping for a bidder war. That hasn't happened yet.
So he puts it back up on craigslist for 9500 $ hoping to get lowballed at 6.5-7k $

My 2 cents

I agree that yours is a plausible story. However, for even low-ballers to be interested, he'd better post better photos IMO.

The seller's answer to me, when I first called him a good week ago, was "that's a lot of photos you're requesting for a $6.5k car." My response was, "Well, I don't NEED to buy the car -- if you want to sell it to me, please send me more/better photos." He did not send me any, but the extra photos on eBay do follow broadly the outline of what I'd requested. Still, the resolution is too low. Furthermore, some of the pics I'd need to see before an in-person visit are still not being provided.

Net result: the car will be someone else's, not mine. Hope it goes to a good home and the seller is happy with the price he gets.

@fc7_plumcrazy , I agree with your therory, but I'll raise you a nickel, and guess the seller is hoping for more like a $7500/$8000 windfall.

Not the same seller. The current owner has had the car for only a short time. He told me that he was initially planning to restore it, "but then he checked the values and even in #1 condition it'd be worth only $15k so now he's selling it." From my conversation with him last week, I believe that there may have been one more owner in between @69monaco's interlocutor and the current owner.

It sounds like he's a hostile seller. In addition to more pictures, he should get the tire in the trunk fixed and put it back on. Then, scrub all the tires so the whitewalls aren't yellow. But for somebody who doesn't know how to use the English language to describe a flat tire, that might be a challenge.

Another example of somebody who doesn't want to work but still expects to collect top dollar.

I too contacted him and got the impression of a hostile and very arrogant seller.

I like the car, but not his attitude...

"that's a lot of photos you're requesting for a $6.5k car."
Yes, it's a big request.

There's the camera settings, the lighting, taking the photos to be developed (do you need 1-hour processing?), getting multiples in 4x6 size, dropping them in the mail to interested parties. Lots of work, I wouldn't take pictures of anything less than a $25,000 car.

Well, 0 bid on eBay. And, the CL ad now asks for $6,900.

Update: the ad is gone as of March 17 -- anyone here get the car?

He said it was sold to Canada after the auction and just a few hundred less than the asking price on E-bay...
I offered 5K just before the auction ended and that made him mad.

So he had to get back to me and brag about how he got more from a gentleman in Canada.

Could be so, since the CL ad is gone...

I wonder if he knows what the Canadian exchange rate is. . . Heh! Heh!
