The old stalling when put in gear syndrome

I have been working on my 66 383 now for about two years, with short road trials for about year and a half. So, after my recent work on replacing the timing chain and gears, I had never seen anything like the chain slop in this one.....mainly from the plastic all gonium, prob. So, out with...

South Carolina history of this car....help from old timers

I got a 66 fury in SC couple years ago now. I was able to track down the three previous owners, none of whom had driven the car. Even went to NC and then back to SC again. But, wondering if the SC old timers might recognize this inspection sticker. It is similar to those from 83-89 from...

Could use some immediate help on cam timing

Often wonder where my brain has retired to. Old 66 383, think that I need to replace timing set and damper. So, before beginning, open distributor and get rotor on no. 1 cylinder, then bring damper around to TDC. Now that I am looking at the cam gear, it is out 180, time mark on top. Also...

    Front suspension thoughts please

I have begun work on the front end....but have not pulled the control arms for new bushings yet, they seem OK after checking. I replaced the lower ball joints and the shocks, as well as the steering joints, after replacing the steering gear box. When unloaded, the control arms dont...

    Heater hose routing.....silly, yes

As I work on timing chain, I will replace heater hoses. They were routed just off the engine hanging toward exhaust manifold. I could shorten a bit so they sit nearly on valve cover, or extend out toward the inner fender. Thoughts please on something silly.

Exhaust pipe to header flange question

I just got a new system that I am mostly happy with, but have a question. The pipe thru the new flange for the header joint, has been swaged over the flange in a nice clean arc. But, this sits proud of the flat flange, and I am concerned about the seal. Vendor says that the cast header has...

    66 Fury Hood Adorn

This hood ornament does not seem to fit very well.....loose on the hood ridge, and cockeyed when tight. Also, a small hole behind. I am happy I took this pic because I did not see the 383 on back side. Does this appear correct, and could it be reversed with maybe a pin that goes thru hole...

Cast crank, forged crank, whats the big deal.....

Take the pan off and look at the front counterbalance.....machined or rounded from pounded.....nah. The cast crank has much more carbon than the forged. Forged has lots of alloys that the cast does not...Soooo, just take some fine paper, 1000 or so and polish the nose of the crank. Then...

    Big block damper install

Anyone remember the pressing on of a big block harmonic damper?? I am building an install tool and want to use 3/8 rod to pull. But, if they are very tight, I will have to up the size. Prob heat the damper a taste to help and will use a bit of never seize....but am curious how tough you have...

    Steering wheel repair

So mine was medium bad, with some quarter inch gaps, and cracks. So, eastwood repair kit. The epoxy is great for the big gaps and is very slow to dry, so is not friendly for multiple apps. So, after getting the main repairs done, I switched to bondo for MANY repetitions of fills and sanding...

    Timing chain replace, et al

Have only done a bit of homework on this so far, and am just punting to get started. 66 fury 383. But, with some rear main seal leaks, the work begins. So, several questions for those who come before me on issues. I will just go down the list.....first, there is one oil pan bolt that is...

    Lower windshield trim fasteners

Have not had any success after trying some ebay fasteners that appeared to be in the neighborhood, but not. Some time back, this photo was put on this forum, and is the set I need. This is the first I have found on the outer clips that have a screw, and my spring clips are either in bad shape...

    Resto work on bucket seats

I am not trying to restore....I took five years on an MGA frame off. My 66 fury is RoadKill, and I want to drive it. But, as an example of just how much is involved in a resto, my bucket seat is one. I pulled the seats for floor pan work and carpets. Sent just one seat base off for cushion...

    Aluminum trim polishing

Having tried to research a means of polishing the anodized aluminum, I have not found much other than sand off, polish and re-coat. Anyone have any luck with this horrible trim. I am not sure yet whether it can be improved at all with a cleaner that does not remove the anodize??

    Console cover fasteners

I hate to always ask the dumb questions......My car has been disassembled quite a bit over the life of the 66 sport fury. I keep hoping to find something original....maybe the engine?? Does anyone know what type nutz were used on the die cast console lid studs. Mine had a couple of different...

    Variable wiper with park

For only a couple years, mother mopar used this park device, at least I think this is it, from service manual. Mine is MIA. IF correct, they are expensive and my motor fries the fuses, so has issues and will need rebuild. My question is this. Has anyone tried to replace this 66-68 system...

    Interior paint colors

I have done just a few searches on this, found the 70 hamtramck pages, but need to find what paint code may have been used on my red interior 66 fury. Have not found a build sheet. Anyone have suggestion on red paint code used on things like the console in 66?? thanks

    My carpet fun

Got the carpet with mass backing, makes it quite heavy and not very pliable. I am thinking that next time not the heavy stuff. And, and, and, I want to try next time to get separate padding. I tried to remove the padding anywhere I had to drill, cut or need to be thin....but I missed some...

    Wiper motor crank arm

This 66 fury has a three speed wiper motor with a missing crank arm....interesting. But, as there are few out there and they are expensive, I wanted to ask about the correct one before trying to purchase. Does anyone have some info on the design of the arm, like the offset bend amount and the...

Rear seat back on sport fury

There is a large trim piece on top of the seat back that appears to be attached to the deck panel. Anyone pull this apart and have some thoughts for me. If the seat has to lift off of brackets, it means this trim has to go first. When I was young, I would just charge ahead, often at my...
