1972 Polara 4 door sedan

My plans are to make this car into a driver. I will keep it as original and unmodified as time and money permits. It won’t be 100% correct or even close but I at least hope to preserve it for the next generation.

Underside of the trunk lid and an extra of the wear and tear on the drivers door. When ya ain’t got AC ya just roll down the window and let yer arm hang out! Also, I’ll be needing a manual mirror. Anybody have one?

All four poverty wheels and caps on. Now my dogs can pee on them with dignity.

I do like road wheels a lot, but the black wheels and poverty caps seem to look right on your ride. Nice find on the Intake manifold, looks like a 1980's vintage Weiand dual plane.

Thanks! Yup, it’s a 2P 180. I plan to clean it up, remove the markings from the front and paint it the same color as the engine kind of stealthy like. I wouldn’t have bothered with it but I’ve never had any luck with those Holley 2bbl that came on most 360s.

Intake cleanup, ground the Weiand off, hit it with a needle scaler and shot it Chrysler blue. Only Virgil Exner knows for sure!

Update: I had a couple of new friends from Illiniois visit me yesterday. I sold a few parts and we had a great time B.S.ing around. Very knowledgeable fellows. They set me straight on a few misconceptions I had about my 72 Polara as far as what parts would interchange from my 73 parts car.
After they left, I fired up the old Green Goblin and it pulled it into the garage to remove the engine for a good cleaning and “freshen up”
The engine didn’t seem to smoke or make funny noises but, it wasn’t running the best and with the radiator pouring I couldn’t really get it warmed up to do much with it. So, my son and I jumped in, got the engine out and on the stand for an inspection....

I figured the engine to be original to the car, the date on the block is 12/71.
The car had around 108k on it so I also figured it to be past due for a timing chain, as we all know how that goes! I had seen a few rubber freeze plugs here and there in it as well so, that’s never a good sign either.
We looked it over before diving into it and found one rubber freeze plug in the back of the engine. Who takes the transmission off of a car and sticks one rubber freeze plug in? The kind of people I buy cars from that’s who!
There was also an original crusty plug in the back of one of the heads that was weeping which, came as no surprise!
Under the timing chain cover, a double roller setup was found, although,it was a little loose. We started pulling spark plugs out and things didn’t look any better there. Textbook oil fouling and evidence of overheating,, so much for the old “freshen up”! I must say at this point in my narrative, I don’t think I’ve ever just pulled an engine and freshened it up with new gaskets and a paint job no matter what. It always ends up being worse than I had hoped and then a full rebuild is on the way!
Check out the high stall converter! What’s up with that? You never know what you’re going to discover on these old cars!

We removed the heads and oil pan and had a look,,, Long story short,it’s salvageable. So,today in the cold, hard, morning light I loaded it up and took it to a machine shop.

At the risk of being flamed for saying favorable things about brand X vehicles, I do my hauling, and dragging old cars out of weeds with this GMC. It’s not a fancy pants, lifted, coal rolling, pretty boy truck. No sir! It’s a manly-man, worky-job truck!
454 4x4 5 speed. It runs on environmentally friendly propane too!
Just figured I’d throw that in there!

Yeah man, good time! I had my son to help on the engine removal. He moves a lot faster than me! I guess one advantage to this car being a striped down small block is that it’s pretty darn easy to work on.

I robbed this trunk lock from the 73....someone had removed the old one without regard to damaging the lid, but this pretty much hid the damage.
