Here's a job for all you body tag decode specialists, just cleaned up the tag from my imperial.

Apologies for it being upside down, don't have software to correct it.

D34 Torqueflight is the Heavy Duty one, yes? "Normal" is D32.

D32 is the Heavy Duty TorqueFlite.
D34 is listed as a TorqueFlite - as “light duty”. Nothing more.
Moreover - D36 is also listed for applications as “A727 3-Speed Automatic Transmission”

In 1973, D34 simply indicates 'AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION' regardless of the application. You'll find D34 listed with /6, small blocks and big blocks on fender tags, broadcast sheets, window stickers and shipping notifications. Code D34 only tells you the 'what'. It doesn't tell you the 'which'.

The only exception I have seen to the above is D35 on a fender tag and Broadcast sheet for a 'cop car'.

Drove her 40 miles to her new home - that is, my friends Perry and Jenny's new home, apart from a small power steering leak all is well, was absolutely thrilled with her, what a wonderful car.

Pictures man pictures....:poke:

Really? So, would the D34 possibly be the 904? I wouldn't think that would be on a car as heavy as an Imp?

From 69-71, the 904 was designated as code “D31”. I believe they changed that starting in 72 to D34.

As @69CoronetRT stated - he's seen D34 mated to a whole list of engines, so I can’t deny his experience. And common knowledge tells us “D32” (727) and a Slant 6 don’t belong.

So possibly D34 was a catch-all for all 904 TF’s and possibly low stall or "light duty" 727's?

Or maybe cars rushed through production? Could even be that a specific factory just stamped 727s as D34 and sent them along.

Coding changes year to year.

In 73, D34 simply means AUTOMATIC Transmission...the WHAT. It doesn’t tell you the WHICH.

The actual application (Which) is listed on the BS.
