Another orphan found our driveway...

Wow... one year... and thanks for pointing out how much more effective Zac has been than most of us... I really do feel useless now:(

OK, moment has passed...:) What do you think Zac will do over the next year? We should start a survey or maybe even a pool. To be fair to those not paying attention... Zac has two other old cars he worked on too.

Well thank you! But I’ve had a lot of help with friends, and Sabrina. Not all my doing. Stuff keeps me out of trouble for the most part.... maybe not the bank account!

Bluesmobile is next on the list! Really need to get her back on the road. Hate paying insurance for a car not going anywhere..

Front clip is back on! Originally the wire harness ran on top of the old radiator. Now I’ve got it run on the front side of the core support. Had to trim the bottom rolled edge of the valance. It’s still barely touching the driver side tank of the intercooler. I’ve got some black tape in there to try, and keep the metal to metal contact down. Not sure if I’ll be able to do anything else about it. It’s tight as hell in there!! Not sure whats gonna go on with a trans cooler, and condensor. Looks to be enough room to run one, but not both...

That's way too complete. What are the neighbours gonna think?

Do the blocks under the wheels count for anything?? lol

Power steering is hooked up, as well as the starter. Must have done something real good, for some great karma. The driveshafts fit perfectly!! Carrier bearing bolts right up in the factory support. I couldn’t believe it! Thought for sure I was gonna need to shorten the driveshaft.

I do need a conversion u joint to bolt up to the rear. Also need to put a couple slots in the carrier bearing mount. It’s a little off to the driver side, making it not perfectly straight. A little to the passenger side, and it’ll be perfect.

I could never be that cute lol.

Air box is in, as well as the rest of the cooling system. Got the front driveshaft completely installed as well.

They don’t make a conversion u joint for this application (ofcoarse). I picked up a new yoke for the Dana 70 to install the cummins driveshaft/u joint in.

Need to borrow an impact to install it though. One tool I don’t have in the arsenal...

Been a long weekend. Been one of those 1 step forward, 2 steps back kinda of days. Been to Home Depot for various fittings many times! I’ve noticed they have been stepping their game up on Halloween stuff. I’m a big Halloween junkie, so each time I went in, I’d come out with another decoration as well lol. Kinda worked out!

First up was installing the cold side of the intercooler.

I spent all Saturday morning cleaning, and prepping the cummins fuel tank to go in. Was gonna run a fuel sump, but my cummins guy swore me off of it..

Any ways, the return nipple broke on the sender. Luckily there was another unused nipple. Just had to drill it out for use. So she was ready to go in.

I dropped the stock tank, and wouldn’t you know it. The cummins tank is just way too tall. Even if I did modify the hangers, the tank would only be 4 inch’s or so off the ground. Ugh!

So on to cleaning, and prepping the original tank. The 440 sending unit was originally 5/16” line. Cummins is 1/2”. After talking again with my cummins buddy, he believe I should be good. Shouldn’t be starving the pump for fuel for a while with the couple small mods I’ve done. We’ll have to do something down the road though. I’ve got 5/16” to 1/2” adapters in right now at the tank.

Before everyone looses their s#it over the rubber hose, the cummins came with rubber, so I don’t feel bad lol.

Borrowed an impact gun, and got the new yoke installed. Also had the new u joint installed on the shaft. Drive shafts are in, and the truck is finally holding itself again! Surprisingly the shift lever stuff hooked up with no problems. Had to adjust the rod a tiny bit, but no issues, so shifter is working as well.

Lastly, had to remove the grill one more time to get the new trans cooler installed. Also replaced one of the hoses going to the fluid conditioner.

Couple small things left, and she’s about ready. I’m trying like hell to get her going for the garlits show coming up. Hoping we can take her.

The speedo cable is to short, need to find a longer one, but that won’t stop her from driving.

@LocuMob

Here’s some pics of the 440, and the trans.

Can see the tail shaft, and the hole I was talking about. Never seen this before? Just an inspection hole?

There’s a line running towards the top of the case, but doesn’t seem to be a crack going all the way through...

Maybe someone else on here has seen this?

I'm saving my pennies!

So you think the carb is the reason for the issues you had before you pulled it? I've got plenty laying around that work fine.

That short shaft will work great in my truck, then I don't have to swap tailshafts between the transmissions that I have.

Yea, I believe the carb was/is a dud. Some days it would run fine, others like crap. Did notice fuel pouring out of it, around the accel. Pump when running crappy.

Glad the trans will work for you! I kinda went “oh s#it” pulling it out. Not noticing the tailshaft on it before.

Well guys, she’s just about alive again!!

Got her to crank over tonight! Had a couple hiccups, but finally heard some life out of it.

She fires right up, but she wants to start revving pretty quick. So shut her back down. I’m terrified of it trying to “run away”.

My cummins buddy is hopefully coming over to get her tuned right, and idle correctly.

I’m pumped!! Hopefully a little video coming tomorrow.

Super stoked to see this!

I introduce to you all, Mayble the ‘78 D300 with a 12 valve lol.

Please excuse the roofers compressor next door. I also forgot to tilt the phone. My bad! But she’s alive!

Obviously still have some stuff to finish up. I had the coil wire for the 12volts to the pump, but mysteriously the wire is not getting any power now. Just have a jumper wire to the battery for now.

I goofed up, and toasted the starter relay. The starter wire got bent, and grounded itself out on the starter body. Got a new relay installed, and fixed the wire.

I love that frigging thing! Congrats, man, that's gotta be a fine feeling.
