C-Body Holy Grail Restoration Starts Here; 1970 6BBL GT

Since your on the c-body forum and your cleaning house, have to ask if you have any 70-71 sport fury cars or parts you want to sell? Thank you Mike 309-824-6220

Nice finds! The rear diff was missing out of yours or you just wanted fresh new OEM?

Also is that a 6 blade water pump?

Thanks!

Yep…The rear got picked at some point after the accident. But,…I’ve got a dated and correct 489 case and matching axle housing from an S/23. The springs are the original and dated, numbers correct as well.

The water pump in the “small bearing” type which I believe is correct for an early 1970 assembled 6BBL engine; September 1969.

By coincidence I actually have an original 440-6 water pump sitting on my shelf from Oct/69. Had it rebuilt but it leaked so I installed an aftermarket unit & never got around to reinstalling the original. Not for sale but happy to take pics. Hats off for making things correct for parts that can't be seen!

Took some pics of the water pump. This came off a low mile #-s matching LA built B-body 440-6, to best of my knowledge it's original to car as it still had the original orange paint (repainted in pics) & untouched fasteners. When I pulled the motor I sent it off to an old time guy to rebuild but he messed up the seal so I sent it back & he fixed but I never put it back on the car (this was 1992). The pulley mount & impeller are original. The impeller is nice because the original owner took impeccable care of the car, there was not a speck of corrosion in the engine. The casting # is 2843290. What appears to be the date code (266- I think means 26th week of 1966) might lead some to say it's not original but I believe it is, of course I can't be 100% sure. Keep up the good work on your awesome C!

My honest opinion I think more likely a replacement part being casted the 26th week of 1976. But Im not an expert by any means and still learning.

This is the water pump that was on my T-code GT. I'm sure it has been changed as its an old 10 blade unit. But then again the car still retained its original assembly line alternator at 95k miles so who knows.

Don't confuse NOS with factory install correct.
Lot of the NOS parts are service replacements.
Here is an original factory installed water pump
The parts book only list 2 big block pumps, AC and non AC, both used the same casting number just different impeller.
The parts book made no reference to a 440-6 specific water pump (69-71 books)

The is from the CHP car, my 500 is the same, both 69 HP 440.

That's actually not a possibility as that casting # was retired well before 1976.
