That is a neat collection and an interesting assortment, I’d be interested to know exactly what he was building.

This is no scraper, it’s a draw knife or spoke shave.

It is my understanding he was a carpenter, he built houses. My grandfather said he was the finish guy, built-ins, molding work, casings, but he was the go to guy for curved banisters. Many houses in the neighborhood I was from were built by him and the company he worked for, my brother has a couple pictures of the interior of one they lived in.

My great grandfather had a few of those tools. He could make or fix anything. Thanks for sharing your story.
 
I spoke with my brother this evening, he said the Ellis Island records have his occupation as a Cabinet Maker. He said the smaller box was also my Great Grandfather and my Grandfather restored it before he passed away.
