So tonight it was time to go out hunting again. Tis the season and while I usually leave them alone I do draw the line at hiding under my car. Caught 5 under the F-100, 3 under the big Merc, 2 around my mountain bike and 5 under the Dodge. Got all but one because it was so protected I couldn't get close enough with the Raid to stun before smashing when hitting the ground. That one scurried into the passenger front rim of the Dodge. Well she isn't going anywhere so tomorrow night will be easier. Last thing one needs is these things hiding in your wheels and suspension during the day when you want to work on your car.

have u ever got bitten from one? there really beautiful spiders but I wouldn't want to go anywhere near my cars if they were around

Come face to face with one in my garage once. Sprayed the entire garage. Haven't seen one since. Nasty little buggers.

Yeah, what is the big deal as they keep other insects in check. I simply draw the line at on my cars or in the house otherwise I'll leave them alone. This one below was a beautiful orb spider with a perfect web when I first saw it in the backyard. In the corner between the three Ceanothus. This one, size wise, put the black widows to shame.

Creepy crawlies have no karma,

Yup Just like Gingers... Oh wait that's souls...

I use this stuff around the compound.. http://www.amazon.com/Onslaught-Micro-encapsulated-Insecticide-Concentrate-MGK1002/dp/B004HD7J2S

In the garage I go especially heavy. It's interesting in the spring when I do the first spray of the season,. The next day I have little spider corpses swinging from the rafters. Reminds me of what the British would do with pirates. I leave them hanging as a warning to future spiders.

Nothing comparable poisonous here, but I still hate them. But just when they are "in my territory".

Wow, nature is tough.

To show you just how tough it is look below. This morning my 5 year old son and I were sitting on the couch watching a sparrow couple feed their four chicks in the rafters of the front porch four feet away. They have been there for a month and havn't been messy at all. So the red breasted male and female were there feeding and chasing off another sparrow couple.

About one hour later I hear a lot of noise outside the door and go out to see. A big western scrub jay flits a little distance away but not far. The sparrows in the tree are screaming. I walk towards the jay and it runs under the Dodge. Chase it out and it flies over to the hose reel. At that point I pick up a rock and wing the bird so off it goes. I turn to the door and then it hits me. All four chicks are on the ground mauled. Little feathers all over the place. One chick beheaded and split open with the guts on the welcome mat, another also split open, with the other two not yet opened up. What a mess. Now I am going to have to explain to my son what happened since he will notice no birds. Don't know why the jay did that since they are fruit and insect eaters and these chicks were torn apart like a killer whale tearing a seal apart.
