Hello everyone, I just purchased a 1965 Plymouth Fury 3 C body I do believe.
its not great but its at a good starting point solid body newish rebuilt 383 2 barrel carb

Heres the problem the last owner upgraded from a 318 to the 383 with out changing the trans so nothing bolts up

I now have the proper trans but it is a linkage trans and my old 1 is a cable to shift

Is there a way to modify it or do I need to keep looking for another trans or a different steering column?
Any help would be great

Welcome !!!!! any pictures ??? :worthless_thread:

There probably is a way, I personally have no idea about that but hang in and I am sure one of our expert gurus on the site will have some information on that and what you may or may not be able to do.

Welcome and congrats. Nice solid looking Plymouth. I see a bit of unraveling electrical tape on some wiring by the firewall. Might want to check that out . Tape is only a stopgap temporary measure. Moisture and what not will eventually find its way in there. Then zap and stuck on the side of the road.

Lol ya on the red wires I take it the previous owner put in a push button start and that was how they wired it in om going thru all the wiring b4 the car goes down the road

Welcome. That car has a darn decent body. I have a good column from a 65 Newport. Its blue. It was a 383/727 big block car. Column shift.

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! Your question about the trans is a good one and I wish I had the answer but I don't have any experiences with pre '67 stuff.

sweet ride... love my 65.. but in same boat as you ... looking for parts .. if you find a great resource.. would you share it with me please !! thanks

Welcome! If I was a little further along money wise I would just sell you the trans out of my 65 because eventually I will be putting a 408 small block with a turbo in mine but I am just not that far along yet. You can either change the column or the trans. You could also always go to a floor shifter from like B&M or something.

Yeah that has been the concensus
Around my shop n buddies as well.
To go to a floor shift drill a hole n run the cable quick n easy
In comparision to tracking down everything else
