The "Subframe / Stubframe debate. Personally I have always called it a Subframe but if you want to call it a Stubframe that's fine. However out of boredom tonight I googled "Chrysler Subframe and came up with hundreds of pages for it. When I googled Chrysler Stubframe it defaulted to Subframe. So as of now that's my reason for calling it Subframe. Lets hear your arguments.

I'm with you on this one Chris. Subframe is what it's called. The other camp must be just a little soft in the head....:D

Ok as some probably know I'm of the show me factory documentation group.

From the Factory Dodge Polara/Monaco 1969 Service Manual
Page 23-89 in the Body and Frame section

Pretty clear to me.
BTW the "K-Member" as it is commonly called on the A, B & E bodies is just a "Crossmember"

Alan

That is exactly what Stan brought to the table in the other thread.... documentation. Its a stub frame... i learned something nee that day

Referred to as stub in the FSM for my Imperial to, is it because the whole thing is removable? Unlike the A, B and E bodies.

I'll have to refer to one of my fsm's for those cars next time I'm at the shop.

Factory manual aside, I would imagine a "sub-frame" would be the length of the car, where the "stub-frame" is self explanatory.

I concider the factory pars book as the "holy grail". In my 69 parts book it is refered to as a "frame" ....... NO stub & NO sub.

I've always used "sub" frame to describe it but accepted the term "stub" frame as refered to in the FSM.

From now on...... to me ...... It will be a "FRAME" ....! You call it what you like... LOL.

I will have to check my 68 FSM manual and see what it calls it. I still think Stub Frame is wrong...regardless of the designation in the FSM. I just think it does not sound right...does not flow right when spoken.

Matt has a sub frame under his stub frame in his imperial of course I guess it couldbe called a k frame that's rubber isolated and under from the stub frame rails on a D-body.

You know damn well that from now on when anybody Googles "Mopar stub frame",all the hits will be for FCBO only.

My 1978 FSM clearly has it as a stub frame.

This forum is the only only place I refer to it as a stub frame.........
