Sadly, the National Park Service, with a little help from Wuhan, killed the Cliff House. I always loved going there. Another part of SF history now only in the books.

But supposedly there are new tenants in the works....

Bureaucracy doesn't care much about traditions and history.

I'd like to hear the NPS side though... I've followed things like this over the years and there's always another side to the story.

I haven't found an account of the saga from the NPS view. I wouldn't think that they could even present a straight story at this point, as it's most likely buried deep in the machinery of the bureaucracy.

One of my favorite things to do in SF was to hike the trails at Land's End, taking in the views, each time culminating with a cocktail and appetizers or dinner at the Cliff House.

Now I'm pissed off again, haha.



The NPS also shut down the Drake's Bay oyster operation at Point Reyes. That was about 10 years ago now. That pissed off a lot of people too.

Reminds me of the former Dick's Center in San Jose.... now gone.

A few miles apart and opened within 5 years of each other. Both are staples of the community in Conneaut Lake, PA and Meadville, PA

Here is a late 1940s real photo postcard of "The Diamonds Restuarant" and later the "Tri-County Truck Stop" on old Route 66. The Diamonds, once the "World's Largest Roadside Restaurant" on US 66 at Villa Ridge MO. The Diamonds opened on this site at MO 100 and US 66 in 1926. The original building burned in 1948 and was replaced by this structure. The Diamonds later moved to the Interstate and this building became the Tri-County Truck Stop. This building is still standing but is vacant and quickly deteriorating.
