I bought the grant 4313 steering wheel adapter which they said was for my car but as you can see the steering column diameter at the back is much larger, since 1970 they built in the key cylinder into the Column which made the diameter larger. The adapter kit fits except for the column cover , I need a larger one, do any of you know which adapter kit or aftermarket cover to close the gap? Is there another grant part number?

Grant web site says its a 3314 for a 1970 but couldn't verify the diameter to be certain. Plus pics online are generic and show the same pic for both kits. This answer seems to confirm 3314 is the answer for the keyed column.
Correct Grant steering wheel adapter ?

I looked back at my old orders from Summit Racing, I ordered GRT-4313 and used it on my '71 300 with tilt/telescope. For my application the diameter of the adapter matched the column well enough that you don't really notice it.

Buy one for a Mustang. It's the right diameter. However, it's a little "deep." I put some rubber washers under it before I tightened down, otherwise it constantly rubbed.

3 pictures. First one is the one you/I bought labeled for the car; second is the Mustang one, third is finished product.

One thing to look out for, if you have that little spring loaded wheel thing for the horn, that cut right through the copper on my adapter and the horn wouldnt work anymore

Thanks for the responses guys.

Snotty: this is exactly the fix I need. I spoke to a Grant representative in technical support, and long story short the guy said I may need a post cover stamped number 26 as mine was the smaller cover number 23. Visualizing this clarifies a lot, easy to understand.

Thank you!

I’ll make sure to have a closer look at that. Thnx.

Do you have the info on which mustang grant kit to buy for this #26 cover?
I still have a box with an adapter in it. Is it the box for the Mustang, or for the Chrysler, I don't know. Did I put the Chrysler one into the Mustang box when I swapped them?? But, it's 4282.

Thanks Snotty! Install kit 4282 did the job and had the correct colum cover I needed. Finally installed my new grant 973 steering wheel in mahogany wood. Think it looks great! Love the look, it works well with the interior colors, and classes up the car, very 70’s :)

not to confuse anyone, install kit 4313 is the correct kit hardware wise with exception of the column cover, which was to small. so I bought mustang install kit 4282 and only used its column cover from the box stamped #26

As opposed to mine which is the more narrow 69 column and used the as-is 4313 kit. Plus a different horn button.

We’ll this project is Turing into a nightmare. I’m so confused now . I had everything bolted up using kit 4313 with a column cover from kit 4282. Problem is the hub adapter from kit 4313 has a larger copper plate surface which is bottoming out and when I go connect the battery the horn is on continuously, I removed the horn button and disconnected the horn button and removed it to isolate the problem and the horn is still going. I narrowed down to the contact surface of copper behind the hub adapter is bottoming out and touching the screw from the turn signal side.

I looked at the stock steering wheel copper surface from the back and it’s much smaller in diameter, so I bought this kit too and maybe it’s this adapter?!
