Wollfen's 1971 Sport Fury GT !

How did you trace it. Pulling a vacuum pump?
Yup, got some extra hose, detached one end at each point, plugged one side, pushed on the extra hose on the other and sucked and blew into it. I got sore cheeks after doing that for awhile. I could actually hear the leak when I put my head under the dash. What put me off early was the fact I had multiple leaks...

I would add that you manually move the doors that the actuators control in the hvac and even lube them at there pivot points to make sure they operate as they should and aren't obstructed.

Yes I have been manually actuating the ones I can reach and have found the one at the top right hand corner is a bit sticky. The pivot points on the rods though are all well greased with a yellow substance, I think its the original stuff but is still good.

Are you still heading out for Carlisle at some point?
It is touch and go at the moment, I still have a few things to sort on the car and right now its 95 degrees with a heat index of 116, plus the day is getting hotter. I don't want to say it but going to Carlisle is looking iffy. Sighs. Would have been my very first show.

Sackin frackin rickin rackin....So I get the dash all back together with all the vacuum lines sorted and also change out the temperature sender for a new one. Then I also run an earth directly from the gas tank sender to the body. I also adjusted the kickdown lever too for proper action and then decide i have to take her down the road to test all of this stuff. Well the car runs great and I am off down a road doing 50mph sometimes kicking it up to 60mph, everything seems fine. I drive around for about 15 mins getting the temperature up and note that the heater is still blowing hot air when it is turned off, so I put it on to defrost and still blowing hot. Okay so that's something I am going to have to delve into tomorrow.
So I drive by past my own driveway for a couple of miles more noting the temperature which while I know isn't running hot still reads above 3/4 hot. Then while cruising just above idle at 45 mph the engine dies. I pump the accelerator a bit and note that it causes the car to slow down faster, this is telling me it is most probably fuel starvation. Anyway it cuts out altogether and I sit by the road for about ten mins and it starts again and I manage to turn it around to go back home. Dies again, so anyway a full three times this happens before I get it home. I let it sit and cool, then turn it around and back it into the garage, it cuts out three times and wont rev. I am done for today, I will look at it tomorrow.
I have also decided now that I wont make it to Carlisle, I cannot know if it will run reliably on a 400 mile run there even if I do sort it out tomorrow.
BLah.

make sure gas lines are clear of heat sources.. or gas will heat up and perculate giving you similar symptoms to fuel filter type issues ect or what your describeing now...easy check and fix

Yah that was the first thing i looked at when I puled up on the side of the road, everything is factory original and in its correct place though, so there was nothing to see. I was thinking heat may have done it, but then again, the car has been running fine on multiple trips up to now. I haven't changed anything mechanically, other than some fine tuning.

I ran into this trying to get my convertible on the road for what ended up being "the comfort tour". The car kept throwing curve balls no matter how diligent I was being. It was almost like it knew a 2K mile road trip a week after a complete drive train rebuild was not a good idea.

A similar thing was happening to my 300 coupe. It was a combination of a small blockage in the fuel line, perforated hose and loose hose connector at the fuel pump. I didn't see the first three times, just a thought since you've been through the fuel line already. On the positive, all the heavy lifting is done, you have time now to figure out all this little crap without the added pressure of trying to get to the show, and possibly getting stuck somewhere between NC and PA.

They have a mind of their own sometimes don't they?

Yah , I'm going to check the most obvious causes and take my time now, try and not miss the simple things, it almost always ends up being something small.

I sat in the car today and started her up, purred like a kitten. Sighs, yesterday it was hot yes, but I have driven the car in peak hour traffic(same hot days) sitting at stop lights etc without this issue, if it hadn't been for that I would have said yes, vapor lock. Now, I don't know. I have not touched it except for checking the vacuum again, and dammit, I haven't got any at the heater switch.

Sorry she's been so stubborn about this... I was looking forward to getting to see her and meet you and the missus. Another time, this will happen.

The difference between an Imperial and the NYB on this trip, for me has been... if the NYB breaks down I have time to deal with it, but don't really have to worry is she gets scratched. An Imperial would be devastating.
