I've been trying to remove the original applied CHP "day two" yellow paint. I finally succeeded with the help of a pressure washer.....more to go....we should have a nearly original CHP paint uncovered after 45 years soon!!!!! You can see the "shadow" of the "HIGHWAY PATROL" decal on the deck lid. I'm really happy about the out come. It's hard to save original paint..... Enjoy!

What a find!!!!!!..........:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:.
Looking forward to see more pix.....

Wow... that's awesome that you can get the newer paint to break loose like that...

I suppose they didn't scuff the original paint before respraying...

Thanks! It is awesome! I'm a big fan of original paint I was really stoked when the "civilian" yellow paint started coming off.

The CHP did scuff the Polara before painting it for civilian resale,...but it was a quick and dirty job....they didn't use primer thank God! It also helps that the car sat in 105 degree heat for 35 years and cooked the paint.

You have been holding out on me. Have you had this car for a while or is it a recent acquisition?
Unit number? VIN? Build date? In service date? Date plate picture?

I need more, pictures, pictures, pictures... please!

Hey Alan, you know this car, you must have forgotten about it! I'm juggling 2 restorations and customer cars right now. I'll post more as we progress. You've got the VIN already. Send me a PM we can talk off line!

*** if you look closely at the Dodge emblem on the trunk lid you can see the "L" from the original "HIHGWAY PATROL" decal ***

If I recall correctly in Dec of 2014 Alan advised this was a $1000 parts car.

I did not put the two together, although this one doesn't have the original engine and it does need work. I would rather put more work into one that has the original engine. Even when I was looking for mine I would have passed on this one. $1000? I might look twice but not a penny more, that is just me, I can't overlook the missing engine (which would cost to get a complete 440).

I do have this one in my list of known units, I would gladly assist the owner with what ever it take to restore this, just not one for me.

This is a very good start to what I sense will be a very interesting thread replete with C body Cop car information and pictures

I'm going to take it to my shop and spend about 2 weeks wet sanding it to remove all the yellow paint,...then I'll cut and buff it.

Hi Alan. GREAT find!! For us in the Northeast, your car would have been a pile of rust many years ago. Do you know any of its history? At our Dept of Transportation; a guy who worked as head of dept had records of PA State Police Cars going back to the 50's! However, when he retired in the early 80's, he threw away all of the records including documentation on mine and where it might have been stationed. I think I shed a tear hearing that.
Any pics available of the interior??

Thanks
Chris

This one isn't mine. In California the Offices were only required to hold onto records for 2 years after the car was sold, 46 years later I'd assume all are long gone. Motor Transport the put the cars together has no records as well, a friend of mine had access to their files many years ago and couldn't find anything. The best you can do is follow the stories that followed the car, sometimes details about the car may give clues as well.
