Restoration of my families grocery getter

Looking great, love a nicely detailed engine!

One suggestion you can take or ignore at your whim.....loose the exhaust manifold gaskets. I used to use them but "always" ended up with exhaust leaks within a year or two, then I switched to just a good quality high temp RTV silicone....have not had any leaks since then. ;)

I admire the level of detail Mike. Very inspirational. A little trivia.... The oil filter was painted engine color when your wagon was delivered new.

Yup, remember that from another engine detail thread. First thing I saw, as soon as I get the car back, I hope before mid July. It will be heading west to Yellowstone, for a couple of 50's it's birthday, and moon landing where we both were. Thanks for the detail note

Latest from the shop, progess. Can't wait for the project to conclude and be able to drive for the first time in 15 years. Tried to make correct choices based on discussions her, sourced research and the best practical choices of materials.
Ihope my dad would approve. The one car he wished to have kept was his Willys station wagon. The greatest generation supporting their families, didn't allow for frivolous pursuits. Thanks for the opportunity to purse this

Do they plan to paint the top of the firewall with the organisol finish.
Your referencING from the top pinch weld, where the fire wall meets the top of the cowl, and the cowl sides come up and meet the same weld. Leading edges as i trcall.

Funny looked through my reference photos and still couldnt tell for sure thanks for the reminder. If it was painted with organisol, the fine stippling wore off years ago.

Argh, stopped by the shop, almost but not. Picked up the bits from the motor that were not used in the rebuild, lots of carbon build up on the piston tops. Looks like very little scoring on the piston sides. But the rocker arms had some polish, and the cam shafts had two lobes with a little wear. One bent push rod? Maybe the Amoco 200 fleet oil we put in while my dad worked there and the schedule maintenance helped.

Trim is on the finished portion of the body, and much the my relief the quarter windows are back in. Especially the right quarter with Air temp decal, they are scarry to pull out between the sealant, opening the locking stripp, to getting the window started out of the gasket. The original seals look good. Enough words..

Looking good! Them side windows are a pain. I lost one from my parts car trying to pull it without hurting the gasket. One wrong move and it just exploded.
