68 Polara restore back on

Hi Marty. Here are the pics of the ash tray I have. It's from a 69 Chrysler and a bit different then what you need. Might help though. Yours if you need it.
Will.

Thanks Will @bluefury361, I need to go out to the shop and check out the angles of what’s left of the tab on mine and what it closes on. I will let you know. No hurry.

thanks

TI to tidy up the engine compartment. I am finally painting my air cleaner cover.
Stripped with Citrus Orange. That stuff works great. After 30 minutes I wiped the old paint off. I used a low gloss black engine enamel from Duplicate-color.

It is now driving me nuts, I think the semi- gloss is more correct than then Low gloss. I just doesn’t look right.
I did look in a challenger/Barracuda restoration book and in 68 the non high performance were semi- gloss.
First coat I did Semi- then I started second guessing. I was right the first time I think.
Low gloss below.

I think it looks more right (is that a correct statement?) with the semi-gloss.
Next let it cure a little more before I put the new service decal on. My heat gun gave the cure a jump start.
Garage is at 55 degrees so I warmed the paint in a container with warm water and the part with my heat gun so that it was above 70 degrees. Then sprayed gave it a few minutes and then gave it a little more heat from a distance. Dries pretty quickly.
Semi-gloss. Get a little road grime worked into it and it will look just right.

I played with different springs for my mechanical advance on the distributor. Was close the first time, all were in spec but I felt that 1100 rpm was a little high to start to advance. Bent the tab in and got it to 1,000 rpm spec says advance starts to move at 925. However by bending the tab in it started sooner, but with the lower spring pressure the second level of advance started too soon. So I popped it back out and put a little stiffer spring that was a little longer. Set idle at [email protected] degrees BTDC. First try I was at 1100 Rpm for first advance off initial 7.5 degrees. Bent the tab in a little so the spring was just snug and tried it again. It started to advance at about 950 rpm and was around 24 degrees at 1500 and about 38-39 total degrees @4500. Now I can’t wait for the snow to clear to try it out. Running these tests brought the garage temp from 60 degrees to 74. That is with a couple of windows open for fresh air. I do have an exhaust port going outside.
A couple of good practice ideas when playing with your distributor in and out. Take a Sharpie and mark the distributor and block at the correct timing. Also take a picture of your rotor so you don’t re-install 1/2 off. Also good practice after you are fully set. Take a chisel and stake the distributor to the block. Helps get you extremely close to timed for first re-start.

Sticker on air cleaner. Am done under here for now. Unless I send the carb out for a re condition.
Original carb and jets, so the shafts have some wear. Put a carb kit in it during rebuild but that is about it. I am not sure I want to mess with it as it really sounds good and seems to be running well.

That's a nice engine compartment, nice work!

Sorry I can’t help myself.
I had it up on Jackstands to check things out and had to get a spray bottle and clean the bottom of the car off. It had some dust and water spots. My creeper is relaxing and comfortable. I put it back down on the dollies so now I can’t wheel under it. I probably need a new project before I wear this one out.

I wrote a letter to Chrysler Historical asking for information on my car.
Today I got a big envelope in the mail from FCA. I was thinking good deal I will have more information for my car. Then opened it an read the letter.

So nothing. Seems no records at historical after ‘67. :(

Yeah the records burned during a fire in the 70s. Er'rybody knows that.

I tackled my aluminum lower sill trim and won. Lots of hours of tapping, massaging, sanding, and polishing. Actually looks pretty good from 5 feet. If you eyeball it down the edge from ground level you can find a few waves.
Here is the process thread.

Looks good. Do the car dolleys work out well for your car?
They are ok. If you shove hard enough you can get a few inches of movement. The best part is they keep the tires round, an I can slide underneath. Bigger diameter wheels would be better.
