I just got an update from the guy who bought my 4 speed New Yorker.
I'm absolutely thrilled that it's finished now. I know in my heart it went to the right person. Although I can't fully agree with a few styling choices he made, I'm happy he brought it to its proper final conclusion.
Damn, I miss that car...

WOW, that is incredible....a 4sp, NOW I've seen everything. I like it.

Stan, what an awesome NY'er! It must of been cool the day you determined "I'm going to put a 4-speed in this car". Would you kept it if it was a 4 door? The SuperBee hood scoops are different. Do you think the scoops would look better painted white?

Too cool! I think it looks great inside and out. If it were me I would have went with some different rims and I think 1978 NYB is right about the scoops being white.

I agree perhaps they should be white but I love the car either way...........its awesome..

The hood scopes look terrible ... It is a Formal C not a (taxi with a big engine) B..

I must admit though I do like the wheels..

Very cool car, I like everything but the scoops, and they seem to be kind of far back.

I do agree it would be more subtle and look better if they were body color.

What has been done to the engine?

What wa$n't done is easier....:surrender2:

I can think of LOTS that *wasn't* done to it...
So now,, lets get the details here... (stern lQQk !! ) :D

What did pedals come out of..?

Sheesh.......

Engine:
Conservative build looking for torque rather than hp (4,800 lbs.).
In short, everything new with Comp Cam Extreme+, .030 over 10.1:1 pistons, Holly 750 , Edelbrock Performer being some highlights. A thousand and one nickle and dime stuff plus over 20 hours of dialing in carb and distributor.
Clutch: McLeod clutch, hydraulic T.O. bearing and I fabbed a master cylinder. I also fabbed up a new clutch and brake pedal asembly.
A-833 24 spline 4 speed, Hurst Comp Plus.
3.55 rear.
Above the purchase price, I put over $10k into it doing ALL the work myself, (nothing farmed out) and the guy that bought it put in another $5k+ over the purchase price and did all the labor himself.
To be show worthy, it still needs a paint job which he'll get around to doing in the future.
It regulary eats new Challenger Hemi's for breakfast with no sweat.

Hey, it's cheaper than gas.

I think Mopars should more readly like a diet of rice, captained by "no hopers" that have their hats on crooked and their pants half of their asses.

Even Mustangs and Camaros would be tasty I'm sure.

Very nice car. It also looks to have a steel crank.

Very nice. Does he plan to run it on the quarter mile? ET and speed numbers would be interesting. I got to ask...does it still have A/C?

Nah, just illegal street racing. He's old school like me. LOL
Plus he lives in Mid-West farm country so there's plenty of empty roads.

Pfffttttttttttttt... "Does it still have A/C?"
Gawd, even Dave knows the answer to that one...

All due respect to you Stan, the above statement is B.S. I know how fast my Challenger is and its not an SRT. I now need video of this famed 4speed formal doing 150 + miles an hour and I also need footage of it running at 13.0 or less in a quarter......otherwise stop it.

Nice work Commando1, I can tell that it was a labor of love, much respect!

My personal experience with the car?
Did a heads-up race with a built SBC in a 68 Chevy SWB P/U. He never got past my rear bumper. I also went up against a new Hemi Charger. Close but no see-gar for him either.
RE: Hemi Challenger...
We naturally can assume it's not an SRT. BUT, he writes me often and usually
includes a latest kill tidbit from his back country roads exploits. I make NO vouch of his credibility. Braggard or real? I take everything with a grain of salt. I will say the car is very fast and I will leave it at that.
I make one claim. It's quicker than your average New Yorker and I feel my build of the 440 can compare with any professional engine builder. No. It's not a 500 hp ticking time bomb. It's merely a very strong 440.
FWIW, that is its second built engine. The first one blew up after only 1,500 miles. Put a window in the side of the block...
I'm not here to brag how fast the car is or isn't. I'm just puffing up my chest a tad over a unique C-body and what can be done if you're too stupid to know that you shouldn't do it in the first place.
To me, 99.9% of the blood sweat and tears of the story is told in one small picture...

I'm the first one to bow to you and say nice job. The car looks amazing and the four speed conversion is very impressive....:notworthy:

However to say " It regularly eats new Challenger Hemi's for breakfast with no sweat." is a serious stretch :eusa_liar: I wish it did, that would be something to see......but its highly unlikely.

"I'm just puffing up my chest a tad over a unique C-body" .........and you should, there is plenty there to be proud of..........
