Didn't the 300 Hurst come with ribbed lower rocker moldings, similar to the Cuda's?
At $4500, there's a lot of work to do on this car, but could be just the price to start at for its condition if numbers match and its what you really want.

I'd personally hold out for one the other 2000 Hurst 300's that seem to keep showing up for sale. (sarcasm intended)

Forgot to include that the business owner said it has the original aluminum wheels. Also an aluminum front bumper. They are accounted for I was told.

Yes, but it wasn't "special" it's the same lower body trim that all 70 300's got.

And it can be tough to find a decent set. I had a tough time getting the pieces together and had to buy a couple of sets to get enough decent pieces to work with. They are aluminum and tend to just disintegrate over time. The pieces on my car have been straightened and polished and I'll beat that a lot of people would have passed on them because of their condition when I got them. It was the best I could do after a couple years searching.... And no, Murray Park doesn't have any...

One tip... If you ever do the lower rockers, use black vinyl instead of paint. I did and it came out really nice.

If someone was of the mind to take on this project (I'm thinking about it), which shop in the US is best positioned to turn out an excellent driver/show car?

Probably in your area it would be Motech. It is hard to compare others in the U.S. given this question.

MOTECH Performance

There may well be others in the U.S. of this caliber but this shop has a very good feedback rating. A friend of mine visited them for a quote and they spent a lot of time with him taking him through the facility and my friend's impression was they were a first rate concern and run a very good business end of the operation too with no B.S. and do quality work. Sometimes the business side and the quality side can be a problem if they are not both very good.

Their rates are around $100/hour but they also have several techs on the car at one time to get it done quickly but with the highest quality. You might want to visit them and see for yourself since you are very close.

Good luck!

He's retired now, but the answer is on this site: Chris Azblackhemi. The man has had some of his work featured in magazines!!!

Many of us by now know that Chris is and was an excellent body/paint guy but I think the gentleman posing the question is looking for someone to do a full restoration, not just paint and body work.

I would imagine getting an excellent driver/show car from a shop would be somewhere north of $80k, but that depends on what your interpretation is of "excellent". There are always a few driver/show Hursts floating around already done for $45-$60K or best offer. My opinion, but unless you are doing the work yourself, there is no savings in spending $4500 up front for a project that you have to pay someone to fix.

Isn't 4500 bucks a drop in the hat though. Finding one of these for 2000 is about impossible. Seems like a decent starting price for a mostly complete hurst. Even if you have to spend 80K to get it to a show car.
My opinion of course.
